Troll ball

Hi Guys, I have a number of friends back in France and canada who are really into troll ball. Do you guys have similar ativities over here ? I must admit that I struggled to find an english explaination of the rules but here they are rouhly :

And the healer is the key to winning the game he brings the sword back to another member of the same team. In france it is a debauch of funky costume (ranging from asterix, egytians, drows, elves, zombies, mexicans, smurfs, steam punk and so on…) and foam sword fighting…

Are people interrested in that kind of activities ? It is good fun usually… and good workout as well…
I thought about it when reading the post about defending marienburg.

I suppose you don’t…

It’s not LARP but LARP related and definitely good fun !

Sorry. I’ve seen it a couple of times at Chimera, and I enjoyed playing it one time, but it’s not really my thing.

I could be keen depending on timings! Always up for something new.

I’'m sure I saw a version of this at Chimera, Ork Ball?

There was Orcball at the first Chimera. I understand it was a very popular game with the AMERICA crowd about a decade ago, and that it’s still quite popular with the university crowd in Hamilton. Alista organises games, or used to.

I played it about 20 years ago. We won because we bribed the ball with alcohol, chocolate and hot women. True story

There used to be Trollball at Battlecry, but that was 10+ years ago

Nothing wrong with a bit of Troll or Ork ball. We used to play it a fair bit back in the old Quest days. It was typically not costumed, though we sometimes used tabards to tell teams apart. I liked it because I fitter and faster than most of my larping buddies of the day. Haha. I was the larp equivalent of the jock. Ha. ha. ha. (If you knew me back then you’d laugh too). I was a mere 65kg back then.

The Hamilton rules were a bit of a mix of grid iron with touch rules (weapon contact) thrown in. It is combat only, no special “classes” or the like, pretty simple really. Unless the rules have changed there was no particular restriction on weapon load outs, was typically single weapon forwards, two weapon or sword and shield backs and a polearm goalie. Run the ork ball between the goal (either direction) to score.

A single strike dropped you, anyone was a target, ball held or not. Played to 5 downs (ball carrier) to handover, 1 single forward pass per down.

There were other sports like rules in there but I forget them. Jono Kim (or Alista if he is still checking the forums) can comment more.

Perhaps a great way to reintroduce this to the Auckland larp community would be to run a session at the next Chimera (or next next, if that’s all full up)? It could even make for some great lunchtime entertainment, or somesuch. (Disclaimer: I have yet to attend a full Chimera weekend, so have no idea how logistics works out. Feel free to ignore my ideas as ridiculous

Lunchtime is typically very busy with shovelling food and diving from one costume to the next  Every round at Chimera has a “combat game” option in some form or another. While this Chimera’s schedule is full up, if someone were to want to run a Trollball event next next Chimera, they’re welcome to. As mentioned before, we had one at the first Chimera.

Cool, Thanks for the info !

So if I get the picture, was popular 10 years ago and nowadays is mainly ruled at wellington and Hamilton. Anna, We can discuss about next next Chimera after this one.
