Transporting your stuff

Hi peoples,

What’s the best way to transport gear like shields and swords, especially via plane? I’ve been told to put 'em in a sturdy box and mark it “Theatrical Props” - if so, what kind of box am I looking for? Fridge? TV? Pineapple? :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve also had a thought - would a 65cm wide shield fit into a suit holder? And of course (properly wrapped) would a suit holder be adequate to transport sword + shield + various padding bits (i.e blankets and sleeping bag) to make the holder somewhat bend-resistant?

Cheers

Depending on the sizes obviously, I would get a large box and flatten it out, or a big piece of cardboard.
Put the sword ontop of the sheild, wrap them in a sheet or blanket, then fold the cardboard around the objects.
Tape it up with a lot of tape. It will essentially be a large flat square, It would take up less deapth, have less chance of being pierced or broken.

Something like this

In the past we’ve often taken such wrapped packages as excess luggage. If you are on Air NZ, then it’s just another $15 for one extra excess luggage, up to 23kg. Other airlines are rather more expensive I think. But worth checking.

Bryn actually grabbed, I think, mirror boxes? Think they were. Big and flat but easily took shields, swords, blankets etc.

But any packaging that protects them from being damaged is helpful.

Also, be kind to the baggage handlers. No loose bits. Well taped etc.

ALSO, consider how you are going to get them back. Make sure you take extra tape with you to re-tape the boxes/packaging back up for the trip back…

I’d wrap the sword in its own bubblewrap or card before adding it to the other items. Latex doesn’t play well with others.

Cool thanks guys, I’ll see if I can grab some big boxes to flatten/grab some big but slim boxes. Good thinking about tape for the return journey!
