Timetable 2010

For Refuge it will be done by questionnaire. Because this is original fiction, whilst some characters will inevitably be based on traditional Western roles, you will not be able to recognize anyone by name, so in order to try to give people what they actually want to play character choice will be by questionnaire.

Actually Knightshade will have pregenerated characters this year… far far far too much hassle otherwise. You will probably get to choose your own name though.

I guess that means they won’t be having linked backgrounds then!?

Ah, dang- on Saturday THREE of the games I wanted to play clash! How will I ever decide?
I’m extremely glad I can play Diamond Geezers in Wellington.

Also, I’m with Idiot- I’m not starting making anything for costumes until I know who I’m playing. There’s no point having a kick-ass frontierswoman dress if I’m a saloon girl, after all.

A Note on Campaign Games
All game produced by the writers of an existing campaign (Knightshade, Nexus, New Horizons, Requiem and Jade Empire) are completely standalone. None of them allow PCs from the campaign, and nor do they require any knowledge of the campaign’s events in order to play. Because we expect a lot of people from out of town (we’ve already had 17 people from out of Auckland register) we want all our games to be accessible. It is best to think of the “campaign games” as one off theatreforms on the same themes as the main campaign.

Like most of the larps at Chimera, much of the background work will this time be done by the GM’s. This is the norm for Chimera and in fact Knightshade had been the exception in allowing personalised character generation in previous years. However, relying on 20 odd people to all submit characters in a timely matter is not ideal. So this year we’re sticking with the program.

Characters will be intertwined but in reality it is the links created when a LARP goes live that really matter…

Sorry, my mistake, I guess people will be picking names in advance and they’ll be attached to the character they’re allocated before the characters are all written up.

Because renaming a character on the day would suddenly mean that all the carefully created character background would no longer be “attached” to the character as it all tends to be attached by character name in the write ups.

Yeah good points though Derek. People will need to pick roles and assign names prior to the event for sure. Background stories will be easily modified with the find and replace commands. The only reason for this is that roles will not be gender specific.

And as Anna said, the Knightshade game IS stand alone. BUT that doesn’t exclude the possibility of retaining a character into the Knightshade campaign at a later date (i.e. when I manage to run some more games).

The final version of the timetable is being posted tonight, one or two changes are being made to the line up.

The same as in the past two years. There will be a webform available on the website (the link will be posted on Diatribe at 7pm tomorrow) to fill out.
