Dave and I are coming to Kapcon this year, and we’re making a trip of it and driving down. We’re going to have the Friday and Monday in Wellington to do some touristy things. Does anyone have any suggestions of must see places? We haven’t been to Wellington since we were young so we haven’t seen anything there so are open to any suggestions.

Te Papa is always good value as the general exhibits are free. There’s an extra charge for special exhibits which varies. tepapa.govt.nz/pages/default.aspx

Museum of City and Sea is -awesome- (in my opinion) and free cablecarmuseum.co.nz/museum- … y-and-sea/

Botanic gardens, nice for a stroll. wellington.govt.nz/services/ … rdens.html

If you can get out to the Hutt the Dowse is another good museum. dowse.org.nz/
-
Weta Cave is a small but nice place to go. You’ll see a few costumes/props on display, be able to see an informative film and purchase replica items and general gift-shop type things. wetanz.com/cave/
-
The Zoo, though small, is lovely and easy to get to by bus (#12 I think) wellingtonzoo.com/
-
Cuba St shopping and browsing and cafe-ing.
-
A hike stroll/drive up to the top of Mt. Vic to see Wellington from up on high.

If you like nature/walks and have someone who can give you a lift, a stroll out to red rocks on the coast is quite enjoyable. newzealand.com/int/article/r … s-reserve/

If you like quirky, weird stuff then Carluci Land is for you - why not try a spot of mini-golf! (You’ll need a lift out there too. carlucciland.co.nz/index.aspx)

Lastly, the Wellingtonians are a friendly, inclusive bunch and I’m sure there’ll be some sort of drinks/lunch/coffee dates that will be happening when you’re down.
Have fun!
Thanks, that’s a great list . Exactly what I was after - though it looks like there is more than we’ll be able to do in just this trip!
We’ll have our car so we wont need a ride to head out to any of those places. Of course if others want to join us that would always be fun
We’ll definately be paying that cache a visit - we’ve found Auckland’s oldest cache, so we can’t miss the oldest in New Zealand. We’re also going to be doing this multi cache on the way home geocaching.com/seek/cache_de … ff33e588fd
I’m really looking forward to it because we’ve never taken a holiday before, so it’s so much fun planning what we are going to do. Not to mention the roleplaying
