The Taupo Joust - Medieval/Fantasy LARP Wanted

Looks like this event is going ahead. Who will take responsibility for obtaining and returning the gear ?

I understand you want to be able to outfit approx 12 players and 8 crew - is that correct ?

No, that’s Cat’s project.

I’m still not sure if we’ll be using any nzLARPS gear.

Julianne and I are now very keen and likey to go.
Is everyone tenting? do we need to organise anything along this line.
We are keen to help hand out cards etc, but I think the dramitic stuff should be left to people like Carl.

My grand rents live down there so I’ll probably stay in their grannie flat (I know, my grannie’s grannie flat) Sounds like heaps of fun! I’d like to be Maid Marion but it seems Anna’s got dibs. I could be Will if you guys wanted though. I have the blonde hair and can strap my chest down.

As far as I understand it, everyone is tenting and it’s bring-your-own tents etc. I don’t think you have to book.

As far as being involved goes, it would be groovy if you could come in a generic medieval costume and follow the ‘actors’ around and hand out cards so the people involved don’t have to break character quite so much (“Rarr, I am the Sheriff, I am hunting Robin Hood…yes, we this couple of times a year, no, it’s not just fantasy, here have a card…I WILL CATCH YOU ROBIN!”)

More the merrier. No pun intended.

Im in, I can drive people down as long as I have someone with a full licence with me and someone is keen to shack me up in their tent. Im driving to Taupo almost once a week lately. Im definately keen to dress up and hand out cards if u need a hand, Im keen to pc a larp, I love playing woodsmen so you got your robin, Im even charming and charasmatic…no comment

No comment? Don’t tempt me 8)

…milord…cough

Sypher if I could get a lift down and back that would be GRAND…but alas no Licence

I for one intend to be camping…and hope that it goes better than the mordavia game went IE No wind, and I’ll check the bed i bring doesn’t have leaks (which by the way it was on the morning i believe one has)…

Oh and I have a spare tent that you may be able to borrow If Niki doesn’t want to use it…

I’ve talked to Brendan, one of the organisers of the joust, and they’re still really keen for us to do our thing in and amongst the crowd. We’ve also got some centre stage time.

Am I correct in the following list of people wanting to partake?

Carl
Nikki
Cameron
Sypher (I’ve forgotten your real name )
Lucy
Raoul, Annika + children (transport depending)

More still welcome.

Details about what to bring and prepare for the larp coming soon

we have the car back, and it will be all ready by the Joust. we will be there, but we will not have the smallest of my spawn. he will be stayiong with his grand mother due to his not listening to me, and him being vicious and running amok. so we will just have Kane and Lucretia, both are very excited, and dying to get there.
Anikka is also rather excited, as this will be her first event. YAY!

Well there is a bright side…he could have run a bull…and that would have been worse.

Robin Hood at the Joust

This larp is set in the generically ‘medieval’ period at a joust, strangely enough. It will be played slightly differently to our usual larp games - we will be playing our characters in, around and with the audience who has turned out to watch the joust. There will be a set scenario but the majority of the events will be improvised during the weekend.

Given that this is a promotional event for nzLARPS, please be prepared to break character and chat to the spectators if they ask about us. We will be bringing business cards to hand out as well.

All are invited to play, even bystanders if they feel like it!

The larp itself is free to partake in.

You are invited to play any existing character from the Robin Hood legend (with the exception of Robin, Maid Marian and the Sheriff) or invent your own character.

Please PM me to let me know you’re coming, which character you’re coming as and whether you are one of Robin’s Merry Men, one of the Sheriff’s men or Maid Marian’s ladies. If you have another idea for a faction/group, do pipe up. This is just a rough guide.

Please bring your own costume.

P.S. All three groups can accomodate both male and female characters.

More Practical Considerations

Date: 3-4th February
Time: From about 10am till either the crowd leaves or we’re exhausted.
Food: You’ll need to purchase your own food at the event or at a nearby supermarket.
Facilities: Given that it is a fairly big event with camping encouraged, I am fairly certain that there will be loos. In terms of showers, there are the Spa Pools across the road who charge the princely sum of $2 to use their showers, or you can throw yourself in the river.
Costumes: To get in free, I’m sure you just have to look recognisably from a different period. A cloak over a pair of jeans will not suffice.

The only restriction placed on us by the organisers is that we don’t interfere with the joust by throwing ourselves in front of the charging horses (common sense, really) but we should probably keep our dramatics to a minimum during the actual jousting, which happens periodically throughout the day.

If people have more questions and concerns, please do not hesitate to post them.

Are most people going down on Friday?
And I take it we can camp on Friday night?
Julianne and I are likely to be leaving around 5ish on Fri getting there around 9 -10ish, what is everyone elses plans?
Our other option in to drive down on Sat, and arriving around 12, if so I take we can still get in etc

Tigger, Nikki and I will be driving down Friday day, so I’ll be around from about then.

Cool, can you guys reserve enough space so we all be together, we will most likely need a tent total.
Julianne and I will be using a simple old fashioned 2 man army tent.

ps if you could put the kettle on, and cook a roast, thanks. 8)

Anikka and I will have two two man tents, one for the children and one for us. Those at the last TNC will probably remember one of them being set up for Seth. Some of you may recall how the ghouls kept tripping over it in the night.

would you have room for one more?
