I would put my hand up to play Robin, but I know that i will just end up playing the sherrif
I seemed destined to play bad guys

But you like the idea?
Robin Hood is an inspired idea. And tâwould be much fun to larp.

Itâs that black brigandine(?) and the easy access to scarsâŚ
They did something similar when I was at the Folklore Festival in Wellington. (Not because I was there, but, when I was there, I happened to observe that this was happening. It might happen at other times too, just that I havenât observed them happening and all.) That version was aimed at the children, though. They seemed to enjoy it.
Robin Hood? That seems like a fantastic backdrop for a small-scale version of Grand Battle. The Merry Men versus the Sheriff of Nottinghamâs soldiers.
Everyone knows the setting, and we can dress up Robinâs people in peasant gear of which we have an abundance. It also lends itself to a series of small scenarios with more flavour than just âfight!â
We can do up a map of Sherwood Forest as the campaign map.
Does the venue have any light woods or is it all fields?

Sheriff of Nottingham: Thatâs it then. Cancel the kitchen scraps for lepers and orphans, no more merciful beheadings, and call off Christmas.
[to a wench] You. My room. 10:30 tonight.
[to another wench] You. 10:45⌠And bring a friendâŚ

damn, i gotta get that movie on dvd.
Alan Rickman made that movie, without him it would have been nothing but Kevin Costner brooding and looking totally out of his depth and Morgan Freemans, âwhy am i following this idiot around englandâ act.
My favourite line from âMen in Tightsâ
âunlike other Robin Hoods, I can speak with an English Accentâ
So itâs Robin Hood for the win, then?
(I wanna be Maid Marion
)

1 Little john (craig would be perfect)
1 alan aâdale (token Queen of course)
1 will scarlet (WHO?)
1 Nasir (By far the coolest character in the TV seriesâŚooh ooh can I change)
and 1 rabbi tuckus, ( sorry Mel Brooks nut)
and several men in TIGHT Tights

oooh, I dunno Anna. Iâm not sure if you can do the ballsy, brash attitude to pull off Maid Marion. Plus, more importantly, its Maid MarionâŚ
Moving onâŚ
Little John = Craig? I like it, great idea.
Alan AâDale (token Queen of course) = Brendan will be there, he may be free.
Will Scarlet ⌠not sure for this one, suggestions?
Nasir. - Actually I think youâd make a great Nasir Carl. Youâve closest to the look and skill than anyone else here.
No comment on the rest⌠although to say if there will be men in TIGHT TIGHTS then we can gaurantee Brendanâs willingness to play Alan AâDale.
You havenât seen the Disney version?
You havenât seen the Disney version?
[/quote]
The Disney version doesnât exist in my universe.
Actually, the best Robin Hood Iâve ever seen was set much later in his life about 20 years after most versions are set.
Its called Robin and Marion (1976)
It stars Sean Connery, Audrey Hepburn, Richard Harris, Denholm Elliot, Ronnie Barker and Ian Holm.
that was a brilliant version, and it stayed true to the legend, robin lying mortally wounded from his duel with the sheriff and firing an arrow into sherwood then declaring that where the arrow falls is where he wants to be buried.
pretty brutal fights scenes to, i would love to see it again
I liked the disney version it was cute and funny with some great characterisations especially from Peter Ustinov as King John

I believe the name Little John is an ironic comment at the larger height and girth of the character. Somehow Craig does not seem appropriately proportioned for the role, being somewhat, short.

Aaah, but thats what makes it all work see.
everyone knows that Little John is supposed to be big, so because thats the standard its not really ironic anymore and therefore thats what would make a little Little John funny.
Nasir made me want to fight with two scimitars sooooooo much
Hokay. Either me or Scott is going to go talk to the organisers (probably you, Scott, since I donât have any time off before I go away for New Yearâs) and talk to them about what we can do within the structure of the tournament, and then get on with writing up the scenarios.
So far itâs me, Nikki and Carl on board. Anyone else heading down and want to make a spectacle of themselves for Team nzLARPS?
