The Scummit

“I knew she was trouble the minute she walked into my office. ‘Course, the dame had done so quite a few times before. Didn’t matter. Every time was like the first time, enough perfume to make a man dizzy, legs that seemed to never end, a voice like silk. In short, she was a dame worth killin’ for. I knew that. I’d done it. She sat down in a chair, told me there was a problem. Knew she needed me. Situation looked bad. Crooks had been killed, and don’t get me wrong. I’m an honest, God-fearing man. I don’t mind the bad guys droppin’ like flies. They’re the bad guys, after all. But this was different. Small-timers were dying too and the Chinese had skipped town completely. Balance was threatened. This could get bloody.”

Scummit is an honest to G-d 1930s mafia larp being run by Daniel Y. Edman and myself. The three major crime organizations of Seattle, Eli Katzmann’s Jews, Rodolpho Marchetti’s Italians and, the most feared of all, Ludo Karel’s Russians, are meeting for the first time. Mysterious vigilantes in colourful costumes have been offing men from all sides, and it’s payback time. The police are under their collective thumbs, so it has to be someone from within… Intrigues will abound as Seattle’s professional lowlives gather to see who can come out on top or just alive. This is your chance to be one of the strapping strongmen, deadly femme fatales or despicable rabbis who vie for power in this most perilous Scummit.

The rules system will be very simple, not at all unlike Friday the Thirteenth. Some characters will have special rules, but it will be driven almost solely on roleplay. There are 19 characters, 5 Jews, 6 Italians, 7 Russians and the ‘heroic’ PI Dicky Star.

Please send Daniel a vague idea of what you want to play at Greyshoes@hotmail.com. Good things to think about is morally grey or wholly evil, amount of romance that would be prefered and where in the hierarchy you’d like to be.

Cost for the evening is $15 unless you’re a member of nzLARPS, at which point you only pay $10. Since we are at a bar, there will be alcohol at the event.

I’m in.

FINALLY! Another Mafia larp! I love the Mafia larps.

1930s Mafia is one of my favourite genres. I will be there.

Colour this Seattle-native very jealous!

I’m in!!! sounds like a hoot!

???

Looking forward to this, just wondering when we will be getting confirmations/characters for this … since it’s only five days away and we need to get costumes together

It is indeed still on. Daniel is finishing up the character sheets as we speak. Not entirely sure when they’ll be done, but, fear not, they will be done shortly. Most of the casting is done, too, so we’ll be letting you know who you’ll be playing shortly, it’s just waiting on a few final decisions.

Bugger, I’ve just realised this is next Wednesday. I’m unable to attend. Turns out the second Wednesday of the month is a busy night for us. Who knew?

COUNT ME IN !!!

2 days to go and no character sheets yet…

Well, that was fun. I think the venue was really good and I think people costumed up real good, there was a nice atmosphere of glittering scum. I enjoyed my character, and thought the characters I interacted with were good.

It got a bit quiet at times, and some feedback I think might be to have some things happen during the game that will drive people forward, push things along. There was a definite tendency for people to keep things definitely close to the vest, and no real reason for them to divulge things. Even though I know there were a couple of players who were going around telling everybody everything they knew, which was awesome, it felt a bit forced.

Full kudos to new guy Ryan for playing arguably most hated man in Seattle - everybody was all too happy to help me push you down some stairs. I think that was a very hard character to start larping with, but hopefully you had fun. See you at Chimera?
