The Queen's Justice

Thanks again to everyone who came to The Queen’s Justice, you really made it sing.

Feel free to post about stuff that happened in the game because I’d love to know what I missed. I’m going to publish the game so it might be run again in NZ, so anyone who might want to play a future run can ignore this thread.

Thanks for running the game Ryan it was really interesting.

I had a great time playing the dreadful Prince, and was glad that he got his comeuppance!

I had a great time playing the dreadful Prince
genuinely scared me bryn.

who played my aunt? she was crying real tears and rocked the deafness hard. she earns 1 billion xp.

also, loved the ‘who wants my hat?’ as the primary concern of the princess.

I believe your Aunt was played by Ellen Boucher. She’s a wonderful role player from Wellington and a real keeper  You guys made a really lovely pair and it was fantastic being able to interact with you!

Thanks Zanni! I really enjoyed roleplaying with you too, you did a fantastic job as one of the only people who could really communicate with me, and who was trying to help me hold it together- I loved how when the soldiers and Queen’s Justice came in and I freaked out, you stood in front of me- thus hiding me from the view of the soldiers, who would of course wonder why I was so frightened- and worked on calming me down.

And thanks Ryan for a really awesome roleplaying challenge, and the huge emotional impact of being a character who is mostly bewildered and lost by things, utterly terrified for her family and wanting them to be safe, but not being in a position to really do anything to help them because she just can’t understand people a lot of the time.

“My son was shot” “Oh! WOULD YOU LIKE MY HAT?” was one of my favourite moments of the whole convention (as I’ve said to Hanz in person and will say elsewhere)- as a character who mostly has to guess what people are saying, it was fantastic to roleplay the genuine, utter confusion with you, Zanni, and with you, Hanz, of “OK, I know that I often get these things wrong, but did she really just hear that my son is dead and offer me her hat?”.

Great game Ryan. Was my first time playing an absolute ass… and I enjoyed the heck out of it. Dying by wandering outside with the Courtesan and stumbling across the rebels with 2 dead guards was hilarious too! And well deserved! Thanks everyone for making this a memorable game =)

Ditto Ragman above. Thank you so much, Ryan, for putting so much thought into it. I told someone that I thought this was actually the best game I’ve ever been in because the story arc that I’ve been waiting for finally happened in a LARP. Also the little details helped like the music in game down to the beautifully-designed character questionnaire.

As a side note, thank you to Matt Swain for providing me with my involuntary-giggle-out-loud moment when he explained to someone that you could see that we were siblings because “dirty faces run in the family”.

And also to all the other fantastic people in the game…I think each and everyone of you added to a wonderful experience all around!

Hehe

I must apologise to you (kinda) - Ryker was totally going to bring Lijsbet into the fold as a rebel (or try to) but after his little “conversation” with Brooklyn decided the less she knew the better! Besides she seemed pretty keen on the current regime, it may have been a bit of a hard sell…

Mmm yes “conversations” with Brooklyn did have that kind of affect (did he threaten to cut your ‘pretty little’ face off - no i guess not - you had a dirty face :stuck_out_tongue: ) … I felt a bit sorry for Roos as I managed to keep her out of the loop the whole game (for the very same reason). She obviously still trusted me though as she hardly was bothered when I stabbed her father in front of her… I’m sorry for not protecting you from that sight, my dear!

Ryan… I’d like to know what you’d like to know… I guess I was pretty clued up on what was going on a lot of the time! At least with the Revolution plot… One thing that I’m not sure if you saw (really can’t remember if you were in the room at the time) was after my first questioning, I was then taken with Roos to the upper room … where I surrendered my suspicion (which was actually knowledge - but I was tough!) about Theophile being ‘Everyman’ … thankfully managed to avoid giving up my future Son-in-law to them as well. And somehow Theo managed to talk his way out of there.

Also… Luring the guards out one at a time by saying “I have some information for you” and then stabbing them/shooting them as we acquired more weaponry was A-MAZING! Hehe… and they so easily fell for it, and didn’t notice when they were all disappearing.

Another hilarious moment - Dirk and Hubert * shooting into the room, once the soldier’s had figured out what was going on * Me: “OI, Don’t shoot the one in Red, he is loyal to our cause” Dirk: * looks awkward * “Is there more than one in red?” Me: “NO!” Dirk: “I just shot him” Me - to Jaap - “Heal the one in red” (She didn’t, I don’t think? Can’t remember!) mmm awkward… and I was all like “Don’t heal her” about Lady Amelia… but it’s just as well she did. We wouldn’t have had the brilliant line “Well, do you have any cake?” Also… I wouldn’t have got the pretty shiny gloves!!!
thankfully managed to avoid giving up my future Son-in-law to them as well.

I’m mighty glad you did!

That was hilarious. It was going so well, until Reuben came out and we were caught with a dead guard on our hands.

Jon

Just realised that I completely forgot that I had been threatening to kick Dirk and his family out… So Ryker, Katheline and Dirk were all stressed about me kicking them out, when I wasn’t even thinking about it! Ellen, you did an incredible job at acting deaf… although I didn’t get it for that first conversation and kept talking you! I’d forgotten you were deaf too.

Sorry for all of the people who lived in my boarding house who I didn’t actually talk to, I was a very rude host, but I was too busy trying (and succeeding, I might add!) to get a revolution going… thanks to my right hand men  You were all so much fun to RP with… thanks for taking me seriously even though I was a woman (Jon, Callum, Matt etc. ) ! And for understanding my subtlety and for scheming … Ryker… if you’d been older and not my sorta adopted child I would totally have accepted ! Ryan, you wouldn’t have known that one… lol after I killed my hubby, I was talking with Rkyer and Roos explaining what had happened and was like “Now I need a new husband” and Rkyer was like “I’m available!” I was like “You’re FAR TOO YOUNG, PLUS YOU’RE PRETTY MUCH MY ADOPTED SON… EWWWW” lol. It was hilarious!!!

Also, Ryan, thanks for coming up with an IC solution to the fact that you had no glasses for the alcohol… I was confused as to why the issue kept being brought to my attention though! I kinda forgot that you were my servant… as I knew you were really the boss! :stuck_out_tongue:

It was a great picture of what actually happens… with confusion, and innocents being caught up in the cross-fire.

Actually, that’s a question for those inside - how was the alarm raised? Or did no one know till we started firing through the door-way???

Heh. I’m still available…

The first we inside knew about it was (I think) the second shooting. Reuben’s a-hole character (;)) got shot, then that brought one more guard and he got shot, which is when those inside started hearing about it.

I must apologise to Dirk for shooting his son dead :frowning: The son shot at the Lady, and she was on our side - I assumed Dirk’s boy was a loyalist, and shot him on the spot… turns out after the game Charles told me he just didn’t know that the Lady was friendly, and he was actually a rebel… way to twist the knife, man!

LOL! I really think IC I would have been distracted by more important things going on…

BTW why weren’t you outside with us? Did we forget to tell you?

You’d think I could have learned that lesson IRL before that… lol

BTW why weren’t you outside with us? Did we forget to tell you?
Yes. Yes you did. :imp: But it worked out all right as it meant I got to clock the Prince while he was distracted with the gunfighting. Took someone else with a gun to bring him down though

It’s okay I thought my son was a loyalist as well. Turns out just rebellious and thought his dad was a loser :stuck_out_tongue:

In fact none of my family knew I was part of the Rebellion. Got some looks from my niece and daughter huddled over my sons dead body as I came back into the room with weapons. This was after I walked into the room and shot and stabbed the Prince in the back in front of the entire boarding house.

Oh! That’s good… I’m glad it worked out … I think we couldn’t see you at the time Matt, so we just improvised. Also, I knew we didn’t need to give you one of the few weapons, so we just forgot to tell you, perhaps! Yeah… Dirk… your family wasn’t so impressed! I actually missed the moment the prince died… not sure why… was it when I was shot?

Nope you guys were outside, I timed it as the Prince turned to reload, walked into the room and shot and killed him and then turned and came straight back out (expecting to be shot in the back myself). After everyone headed inside, and then I think you got shot not long after.

I was in the room when he was shot and killed.

Good work, Dirk! Wish I’d been there!

Such a good game, I think this was my first true PVP game in 20 plus years of larping, where some players were out to kill other players, it made for a really interesting dynamic.

It was interesting that the revolutionaries were happy to kill rather than simply maim or capture those that opposed them. I guess it shows how immersive the game was that they’d stepped out of that ‘must try not to kill other players’ mindset.

Certainly has me inspired to try and write something that inspires a similar level of attachment to your characters survival.

Thanks Ryan and all the players, great stuff!
