Teaser?
does the link not work?
People may be reluctant to click on it for fear of spoilers. And given that I came across a whopping great one when I inadvertantly mouse-overed something, quite rightly so.
oh sorry maybe i wasn’t clear,
this CONTAINS SPOILERS
can EXPERIENCED GMs look at this and see if they think it is playable and give some advice and stuff - ie. people who wont be playing so dont mind if they see a spoiler
if you’re usually a PC can you NOT look
does that make sense?
here is a teaser=
Warning: this game contains explicit homophobia and has potential for sexist content.
I had a look last night over dinner - while I think the idea is really quite interesting (and something that I would probably play, given the chance), I do have a problem with the structure of the game.
As far as I can tell, the game revolves around nothing but challenges and eliminations. The best chance those gay characters have to avoid elimination is to pretend to not be gay, but there’s no social downtime between challenges for people to ask questions of each other. This is what underpinned a very similar show, ‘The Mole’ - while the challenges could provide opportunities for the target character to reveal themselves for who they were, it was during the social interactions between challenges where peoples’ suspicions could be formed and confirmed.
So this game, in its current form, requires people to make judgments about a character’s sexuality based on how well the players complete challenges. If these challenges require physical or mental exertion, though, then all you’re really doing is testing the players - if I’m playing a strongman, and someone else is playing a weakling, the strongman will lose the strength challenge (because I myself am not a strongman). Unless you’ve cast players to match the physical, mental and social abilities of the characters (or vice versa) then you’ll have a skewed game.
My advice for this game would be to either do something different with the challenges and allow some socialising time, or do away with the challenges altogether and make it more like ‘Big Brother’. By ‘do something different with’ I mean go with less obvious challenges that still might influence peoples’ opinions on the character’s sexualities - a game of blackjack allows for social time, and all the analysis in the world the character can do on whether or not a gay person would say ‘hit me’ when the table shows 18.
cheers, big brother sounds better. although i might give some ‘challenges’ along the way like they do in the show.
my biggest issue is the ending, i cant figure out a way to end it without the players feeling a bit diappointed.
