The Dance and the Dawn: October 20, 2012

This game tells the tale of six beautiful Ladies who came to the court of the Queen of Ice for a midnight ball, and there danced with seven noble Lords, all in pursuit of the True Love that could heal their hearts.

The players take on the roles of nobles in a gothic fairy-tale realm, convened for a great ritual dance, who have one night to find love and redemption. Six players become the Ladies of Ash, who have come to the midnight ball in hopes of healing their heartbreak; seven become the cold, proud Lords of Ice who are there waiting for them, and who struggle with tragedies of their own; and the other two become the Queen of Ice and the Duke of Ash, the enigmatic figures who have arranged the whole affair. The game is an event that lasts about four hours, which will be taken up with dancing and dueling and courtly intrigue…and, of course, with the eternal hope of romance and joy.

This game will involve formal dancing, and therefore a certain amount of unavoidable personal contact. There are some minor themes of same-sex romance, prostitution and sexual violence, but these are easily avoided through casting.

COSTUMING: “Gothic fairytale”. Old fashioned formalwear and ballgowns.

This game has been partially filled already by the people who talked me into re-running it and the people who missed out at Chimera. If you’d like a slot, please email me, first-come, first-served. I’ll waitlist a few people to replace the inevitable dropouts, and they will receive priority for any re-run. Casting will begin when I have a full slate of players.

Edit: All female spaces hav enow gone, but I will keep a waitlist.

I am so excited about this game.

This game is now full; I expect to post cast details tonight, and email out character sheets and background tomorrow.

After juggling preferences and confronting the fact that you all want to be either worldly deviants or arrogant brooders, I’ve come up with the following casting:

(This cast-list has been redacted for privacy reasons, there being no good reason to leave it lying around after over a year. If you wish to know who you played, please get in contact - I/S)

8 out of 12 got their first preference.

I just gotta say. I’m really looking forward to this game.

Me too. Costume is all planned out but there are still a few things to work on over the next fortnight. I haven’t waltzed in forever either but at least I don’t have to do it backwards in high heels.

Heels? Are you crazy? I’ll be in ballet flats. And now that I think about it I’ll be leading. Excellent!

Due to illness, we have a vacancy for a male part. Please get in contact ASAP if you can fill it.

Have practiced moving backwards in both heels and a bustle. All I have to do now is make sure I don’t automatically start leading

Don’t worry, I won’t follow you.

I might follow… depends where you’re leading.

Thanks Donna and Idiot for running a great Larp. Had loads of fun. Would definitely recommend.

Also secretly glad that I didn’t trip up on my bustle.

I think that went well. Thanks to all the players, especially those who stepped in at the last minute to fill vacancies. Also thanks to Bryn and Hannah, who came up with the concept for the fantastic set design, and to the people who contributed gear and came early to set it all up and take it all down again. Finally thanks to our faithful Shadow-Servant Nick, who was suitably freakish while spying on people.

And if you missed out, the game will be re-run sometime next year. If you are interested, email me, and I will put you on the contact list for it.
