How about the classic - Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death.
Big Fish
Jaws (āWeāre gonna need a bigger boat.ā)
Die Hard
Ghostbusters
The Life of Brian
Snakes on a Plane
EDIT: And The Chronicles of Riddick. Vin Diesel stabs a guy to death with a teacup in it. Thatās got to be about the second most awesome thing ever.
The 1993 version of the three musketeers was RUBBISH!!! it was the typical attitude of hollywood producers of lets take a literary classic and RAPE IT TO WITHIN AN INCH OF ITS LIFE JUST TO SELL F******G MOVIE TICKETS!!!
Which it didnāt because it was shite and audiences knew it was shite and it bombed.
I would rather have my eyes gouged out and Justin Timberlakes tiny tiny bollocks transplanted in thier place than watch that load of Poo.
See Tigger thats how you do it.

Is that the one with Tom Cruise in it that youāre thinking of? I remember seeing a movie called The Musketeer, sometime in the last five years, that was only in sniffing distance of the original plot - it mostly used similar names. Truly amazing action sequences though - theyād borrowed the fight director from the Wuxia genre. Ladder fights, rolling barrels, sword duels as both participants climbed up ropes⦠
As an aside, I have never seen a movie version of The Man in the Iron Mask that doesnāt stop halfway through the book and change really serious stuff, like, yāknow?
The Abominable Dr Phibes
Dr Phibes Rises Again
The whole Dora series would be ideal. But probably only for 2-4 year olds.
They usually have a ātreasure huntā type theme, using a map and having to follow simple directions. Sometimes they have riddles and clues Dora has to solve.
Iāll probably run one for my daughters on the next birthday.

Nope this one had the current Crap Pack of flavour of the month pretty boys in it.
Kiefer Sutherland as Athos
Charlie Sheen as Aramis, I am sorry but this is like casting The Rock as Frodo. before an actor can assume a role he has to understand how the character lives and thinks, this would be difficult when you are so spaced out on cocaine that you dont actually realise you have just spent the last fortnight with your head between Hiedi Fliessās legs
William Platt as Porthos
and Chris OāDonnel as Dartagnan

That was hong kongs take on the material, the fight scenes were spectacular, but that is about all you can say really
If you want a āRealā movie version of the Three Musketeers then watch either the 1973 version
not only does it have Oliver Reed (who is an acting GOD) but Raquel Welch (who is just a Goddess, and boy does she fill out a bodice growwr)
but other such greats as Christopher Lee, Roy Kinnear, Spike Milligan, and Faye Dunaway and Micheal York and Richard Chamberlain.
It is an example of what happens when you put incredible actors, together with an incredible story, You get a masterpiece.
or imdb.com/title/tt0040876/ which is the 1948 version,
the interesting thing about this one is that it has Gene Kelly as Dartagnan, now you might wonder about this but man he is just an Incredible athlete and acrobat, in this movie he is doing stuff that would make Jackie Chan go āDude you Rockā some stunts are simply mind blowing, and all done with No safeties or doubles. this is without a doubt the golden age of swashbuckling and I am shameless in my love of it.
The three Musketeers is about three on my lifetime favourite books, (LOTR aint even in the top ten) it is the book that inspired me to learn sword fighting, so forgive me if i gush
AHHHH pasted the wrong version!
1973
SEVENTY three!
ONE NINE SEVEN THREE.
Everything else on the list I stand by except the captian blood series should be in the swashbuckling list some whereā¦

You are forgiven my son, your penance is three hundred hail marys and flaggelate yourself nightly for a month.
Thank God nobody has mentioned Van Helsing. Obviously people of taste and distinction on this site.
Robin of sherwood - 80s British tv series
Very close to what we actually do in Fantasy Larp, ie. medieval setting, good, but not over the top costumes - very rustic. Good combat. Magic is mystical and manipulative. Good plots. That sort of thing.
This has my top vote, canāt bet this.
Others
Star Wars
Starship troopers
Kingdom of Heaven - Extended version, not for sale in NZ
Mists of Avalon mini series
Children of Dune mini series. (a lot better than Dune)
Lady Hawke
Dark Crystal
Camelot (from the 50ās)
Highlander
The Postman
Can I say:
The trailers for Van Helsing

Guess not - I adore that movie. Of course, the question of taste is highly subjective.
OMG! I thought I was the only person in history to actually have watched that movie!
I really donāt think I want to do a LARP based on it tho⦠

Ummā¦Iāve seen it too
It wouldnāt even make the list of B-grade Shite movies movies either.
Which is:
1)Class of nuke 'em high
2)Invasion of the bee girls (The first one the sequels wernāt that good)
3)Tromeo and Juliette
4)Canibal: The Musical
5)Black-ula
Number 2 would make a GREAT larp
I thoroughly enjoyed Van Helsin as a comedy. Not a horror movie.
The ball scene in Budapest was all kinds of awesome.

Oh yes - the plot was flipping horrible, but they had such joie de vivre making it. And Hugh Jackman has a lovely voice, that helps too.
