this is a bit random, but I’m trying to help out someone who’s thinking of moving to NZ to teach.
Is there any teachers here that are willing to anser some questions?
My wife’s a teacher. The paperwork is horrendous, particularly if your friend does not have English as a first language.
You can only teach in private schools unless you are registered. To get registered you need all your qualifications NZQA approved and IELTS 7 in all areas. Obviously some of these are easier if you come from the UK as opposed to (eg) China. The registration procedure plus document translation, IELTS certificate etc can top $1000 to get.
However if you’re an English native speaker only wanting to teach in private language schools its a lot easier.
