Tank Boy

So at Big boys Toys on the weekend I saw an interesting group there. They had a soviet tank. And they called themselves “Tankboy”

I checked out their site and I thought it was kind of relavent to nzLARPS. I am NOT saying we want anything to do with these guys, but I thought it would be interesting to point them out.

They do public army LARPs. It’s WAY over priced, but it is at least helping to make LARPing get slightly more socially acceptable.

What ya’ll think?

I’m keen to go but I agree the price is prohibitive. They seem to suffer from one of the traps of having one cool prop - all you have is one cool prop. But it also seems like some of their events really encourage players to get into it, get immersed and play like their character. That’s really cool and what I want to see more of.

Well, two cool props really… The tank and the big personell mover.

But yeah, getting people emersed and what-not is great of them… even if they are wankers from what I saw at Big Boys Toys.

I know the type. The models these guys use are from media-X and I know the director. They’re a bit up themselves and think theyre the shiz

Incidentally, the amphib truck was for sale on trademe about 2months ago for $40000 and was noted as not being suitable for amphibious use anymore with major repair.

Yeah, I was there with my mate, and his uncle who is in the NZ army (the real one) was with us and we were walking around. People kept stopping him and asking where is gun is, as “all his mates” were walking around with theirs. My Mates uncle pointed out that those guys are fake, their guns were fake and that it would be stupid to carry live guns around an expo, the NZarmy would never do that.
The look on their faces was classic. It was a mix between, heh, yeah, what arseholes and slight embarrasement that they were convinced.

Apparantly they had a paintball fight with the NZarmy too after hours from the expo… the real army won.

Does that surprise you at all?
I mean one is a group of tosser’s, the other is a group of trained soldiers, trained to work as a team, and take out tossers.

R

Tossers or not, it looks like a fun way to earn a living.

You got that right. The wouldn’t even lets us walk down the street in Bulls with our rifles let alone inside a public venue where the chance of a weapon getting nicked is possible. Real weapons at exhibitions are chained to a table.

Did the have the NZLAVs at the Big Boys Toys? Those are most excellent to ride in.

Hmm, I can’t remember actually.
They had a couple of vehicles, but none that were open for rides, just, kinda sitting in, and some posters on the different vehicles they got and such, as far as the NZmil goes.
TankBoi had their tank and their personel mover, however these too were stationary with the tank open for people to get into.

Our LAVs are awesome, not quite tanks but incredibly manouvrable. Need a security clearance to be in one, took me a year just to get the clearance to go inside them. Very fun to cruise around in.

Sorry to have to necro post but I have to set the record straight here

I was one of the guys doing the promo with TB.

Exquire
They are aiming at corporates, the market rate for team building events $200ish.
The gaming price is comparable to Paintball, $70 for a few hours out.

Ian,
One of the guys can come across as rough.

Nuke, ok guy really.
A side of you does come out doing promo work like that which may not be your normal self.

Scotty
Props were Airsoft. The ones used in their gaming operation.
They were not live.
www.media-x.co.nz appears to be down.
This is not the truck that was for sale.
Although amphib functions has been disabled, otherwise it would have to be registered as a watercraft and maintain as such.
We chose that style of camo to not be mistaken with the Army.
Next time we will also use different guns.
But you know the public, camo + guns = armed forces.
Even in our SG1 outfit at Armageddon we were pinned as army by some.
Later during the expo, the army also started carrying their kit.
I can’t confirm the PB game as I was not there on sunday.
Not surprised they lost, as they are more business people that mil fanboys

rant over, as you were :stuck_out_tongue:
