Would you believe that I’ve been meaning to post feedback since the game, only to keep getting distracted with something every time I sit down to do it?
Okay, here goes. At long last.
A huge thanks to Kham and Daniel for being so welcoming to us confused larpers showing up and needing everything explained. All the airsoft players were lovely too.
There’s still some teething problems with mixing airsoft and larp, but it was really good to get out there and see what they do live - it’s odd, I’d say we do what they do, but they don’t exactly do what we do, if you follow me. Those larpers that had very defined roles on what to do worked really well - the reporter, the commander and the VIP fit in well to the scenario. Unfortunately, the aid workers and techies ended up not doing a heck of a lot, which was a good lesson in making sure every role is integrated into the game.
I think, in future, arming the larpers isn’t a bad idea - complying, of course, with all ASA’s safety and training regulations - we are capable of both fighting and roleplaying in equal measure
and to get involved, it did seem like you needed a gun. I know this means they will be fair game to be shot at, but that’s something any larper who picks up a gun will cope with (similar to in a boffer weapon larp, if you go into combat, you know you’ll be hit with a sword, and you deal with it)
Maybe one day we’ll try reversing it - we’ll write a larp with airsoft guns in it and see how that goes
