Stuck on an island LARP

I don’t think this idea has come up yet! It’s an age-old movie or comic book etc concept, where you’re stranded on a desert island with fading hope of rescue. It’s executed nicely in ‘Lost’ the TV series, where there’s more to the Island than what it seems. That concept would make a great LARP.

So here’s my suggestion: the game is set in 1953, well before cellphones or TV or sophisticated search and rescue technology but not before guns, alcohol or life jackets. Travellers aboard a boat headed for Singapore are shipwrecked in a violent storm, and float ashore on mysterious island. It’d be played over one weekend with minimal crew and props, a largely dramatic survival game of character and ingenuity.

Aaand I’m thinking November when it’s starting to get warmer again.
Thoughts?

I’m willing to give this away for someone else to organise, just speak up and we’ll collaborate, then you’ll own the project.

walks in, sticks a flag in the island and claims it for herself

After some discussion with Craig, I have officially hijacked this premise, and am looking at running a game based on this concept in about late November. Definitely a warm weather game.

I’m looking at applying this game to run as a project of nzLARPS.

I have loads of ideas and need a co-organiser, who is good at keeping secrets.

Most Excellent more LARPs.

Heh, sounds good.

I’m all for this, even more if its in Chch :stuck_out_tongue:

Probably not, given that I’m in Auckland, alas.

You’d have to go very far back in time in order for there to be no alcohol.

That being said, it sounds like a great idea. I’d be willing to help out any way I can, since it sounds like a great LARP to crew in.

No I said there WOULD be alcohol. And guns and life jackets. But before cellphones and decent search/rescue kit.

There would be very few crew. This one’s about playing.

Yes, I got what you said, I just pointed out that saying alcohol is in period for a 1950s LARP shouldn’t really be news to anybody.

Ok, I bagsies playing the Professor.
Matt & Anna can play the Howells, Craig can be Gilligan…

Who plays the others?

Hmmm…I’m up for this one.

Any ideas where you’ll run it?

they had good music in 1953… i would definitly be interested in playing

Cool, I think that just leaves Maryanne and Ginger to fill. Any suggestions? Malu for Ginger? Lucy for Maryanne?

sounds very cool, would the players be sleeping in tents?

nah i say we take a few crates to sleep in and some blankets :stuck_out_tongue:

Ahoy, Anna! I’m totally keen, though I’ll just need warning as to dates so I can get up to Auckland. And co-organising would be cool, if you’re still looking for help. Not that I’m in any way devious or tricksy. =D

Okay. My Diatribe account has been…problematic…at best, so I didn’t notice how this thread took off.

CiCi, I am indeed still looking for help. Email me or get on MSN. I’ll tell you what I have so far, which is A Concept. I like the concept but I need a more practical-minded partner to help pull this thing out of the realm of dreams and into reality.

I’m kicking this thread off again.

I am currently looking for about two or three people to be involved with the crewing, plotting and organising of this game.

The game will take place in early summer. The surroundings and shelter will be suitable for the elements. It will probably run on an actual island.

Please PM me if you’re interested in helping out.

this sounds rather nifty~

do crew get to take part in playing or are they more behind the scenes people?

Secret, but you’ll like the answer. PM Anna if you already know you want to crew.
