Special BattleCry demonstrations from special effect company

Hello all,

We have had an offer of demonstrations run by TopMark Products being held over the weekend of BattleCry.

Oscar winning TopMark Productions deal in Silicone Rubber, Polyurethanes, Epoxies, Pigments, Clays and many other materials for the Film, Design, Craft, Moldmaking, Modelmaking, Pattern making and Special Effects (SPFX) industries in New Zealand. To see the full range of their products check out their website here: topmark.co.nz/ which also includes a new photo gallery.

We are working to have some short demonstrations running through the main food breaks of BattleCry so you can wander over from the tournaments if you are in one and have a look. We also want to have some running for visitors/spectators who are just visiting BattleCry.

What we need to know is what sorts of demonstrations would people like to see. Do you want to see how to make moulds for making terrain buildings? Do you want to know how to use resin to make terrain features? Do you want to know how to make prosthetics for costumes for larps? Do you want to know techniques for painting miniatures, terrain, even body art?

If there is something you definitely would like to learn about, please tell me as soon as possible, as we don’t have much time to decide as BattleCry is only 2 weeks away… arghh, panic… :open_mouth:

Regards,
Karen

They are planning on demo-ing their stuff on the Sat (9th) of BattleCry. They are wondering if anyone is needing the mass producing of a special belt buckle or insignia or gizmo for costumes for any future event, that they could make up a mould for to show people how stuff works… and then have some replica’s already made and for sale.

Anyone needing something like this for a future larp?

Is there a cost associated with this ?

I imagine for the finished product, but not sure as it would depend on what you want, how tricky it is for them to pre-make the mould, what it would be made out of, and how many you wanted. If you have an idea of something, I can ask them what sort of costs would be involved before you make any firm commitment.

I would love to see a demo for making molds for pewter casting. I’d come to the event for this alone.

My Dad used to make shapes out of plasticine, make a cast out of plaster of Paris and fill them with pewter. It worked OK for biggish shapes, not so well for thin bits.

I’ve sent them a query about what sorts of materials they have and would be willing to demo. Not sure about the whole ventilation and mess issues with certain products. Once I know more, I’ll post here.

Ok, post event. The Top Mark people were really impressed with what they saw, but with all the tournaments it was a bit hard to really run any demo-y sort of things. Plus they weren’t really sure what to make.

However, they are really keen to run some workshops, focusing on different products, and making different things. They are really receptive to going along to a club or event and run a workshop.

I am looking at organising some specifically for the wargamers. Would anyone be interested in some workshops where you just rock on up and they demo their stuff and how to use it? It would be free, depending on where we hold the workshops. Possibly Uni, or at the Freeman’s Bay hall when the wargamers are there.

If you would be interested, please speak forth and mention what sort of focuses you would like and I’ll pass all the ideas onto the Top Mark people.
