Im not sure if its come up before. I sttudied and work in sport. It is very diffucult to get money of SPARC. Not saying we cant try but it is very hard. They are taking money out of smaller stuff to get into bigger stuff and at the moment they are in the middle of changing over all of the schools to a new programme. It would be totally fantastic if we could tho.
Yeah that has been my experience playing in sports that aren’t as mainstream in New Zealand as well
Rather than a source of funds, perhaps they’d be a useful partner for marketing, to let more people know about larp?
Their remit includes not just sports but also recreation, and they did that whole Push Play thing to get people active. Ours is a very active form of recreation, so there is some fit.
my nz LARPs membership is expired, but if anyone would like to propose this an an agenda item, and maybe get one of the nzlarps reps onto it that would be mean as.
tottles off to study like anything
Back when i was on the committee I checked them out and gave them a ring. I explained what we did and whether there was any point making any application and the answer was ‘don’t bother’ unless we are a mainstream sport. Non-mainstream sports may occasionally get a little help with a specific project but they guy I spoke with said that we would not even be considered to be a fringe sport, we would be classed as theatre so we should look for arts funding.
