Southdown burnt down?

Just found out about this:
Up to 80 firefighters are battling a large blaze at an abandoned cool store building in Auckland.

The fire, at the Southdown Freezing Works building on Hugo Johnston Drive in Penrose, began just before 6pm.
Anyone know more about it?

What are you wanting to know? The building is gutted - unsafe to enter, even for investigators.

I have it on good authority that there is no doubt this was arson.

I know that it has cause various re-writes in power rangers scripts. (It used to be used as one of the main locations for filming)

:frowning: :frowning: That place was awesome.

I’m a little confused as to how a building that is mostly metal and concrete can really catch fire though

Asbestos is flammable.

Wait, what? Asbestos is fire resistant (double checked on wikipedia, and yep it is).

well apparently that was what was causing the big issues, and creating the big firey flare ups. Didn’t make much sence to me either, unless it was nsulating the heat until it went boom??? I dunno, i usually just sit and perv at firemen…

Was in the area on Thu 1st.
It does not look good

RIP SD :’(

Would make a great set for disaster/apocalyptic scene.

edit:
looks like the area most damaged was the coolstore.
Lots of polystyrene insulation to fuel it.

i hope they build something usefull ontop of it

Like an arena where robots battle to the death or a supercollider…that would be awsome…oh or you know…a hospital or school or co-generation plant or somethin’ that would also work.
