Snow?

Hum… it looks rather like it’s snowing in Newton, Auckland… :astonished:

Or very very fine, floating hail. Is there a difference?

Ah, seems like I’m behind the 8-ball. Patches of snow all over Auckland.

For those of you down south… this isn’t an Aucklander complaining about the weather. It’s just such a rarity up here that it’s pretty cool when it happens. I don’t think I’ve ever see it snow in Auckland in my 36 too-old-to-be-an-elf years.

It is so cool! I havent seen snow in ages and suddenly snow in Auckland! I was in a lecture unfortunatly, but we all got up to look. Really heavy hail too.

Ah, I hear it hasn’t snowed in Auckland since 1939, and that’s the only time it’s been recorded before. I predict interviews with lovely old folks who saw it the first time, at 6pm.

Sigh I thought I got away from the snow when I moved here >.<.
Anyway, it’s funny to hear all those kiwis at my school debate whether it was snow, hail, rain or a combo of it all XD.
And to see 'em get all hyper about it.

What I thought was more awesome however, was when I went to the general area of Taupo, and saw the snow-covered mountains over there, Now THAT’S something new to me =D.

It didn’t snow at all over my way (north-eastern part of Auckland). We got tiny bits of hail, but it was unquestionably hail.

I had thought that Mt Eden (or one of them at least) had received some snow one night back in about the 1960’s but I can’t verify that (and I certainly wasn’t around to be remembering it).

The whole fricken country is getting the white stuff. Even Northland! The Waikato got its share, Pirongia has snow, we had snow falling at work in Te Rapa (Hamilton) and numerous other suburbs, it was snowing in Te Awamutu, Matamata and Tokoroa. I’d be suprised if the hills near Morrinsville (Kamica) didn’t get a dusting too.

AND

Forecast is for more, colder tonight, and cold for the whole week.

Be prepared folks!

And yes, it is a big deal, NZ hasn’t seen snow like this in most of our lifetimes. Some places get considerably more, it is true but it is very novel for us!

Everyone down here seems pretty excited about it too. For much the same reasons.

You know, I had to play a musical this night… now that doesn’t seem so bad, until you realize that we were bare-feet, and in only singlets and jeans, and our dressing rooms were outside >.>
