This morning I was at the Number 1 shoe Warehouse Clearance Store in St Lukes (next to Noel Leeming, not their main store across the road). Saw these leather shoes (with thick synthetic soles), available in black or brown. I couldn’t resist a pair of the brown, because they are ONLY $10. They had a reasonable wide range of sizes - from 5 to 11, womens, but are quite wide, so would suit guys too. [First time I’ve tried to upload photo, so not sure if it’s working properly, apologies if it isn’t.]
edit: Hmm seems the picture is coming in huge, so not easily viewable. Any hints abut managing picture sizes on the board from the audience?

They are good aren’t they? Number 1 shoes often has good boots that would suit a pirate or fantasy style LARP. It annoys me because I am too afraid to go see if any will fit me. I can handle being harassed by the general public for LARPing but I buckle under the gaze of those who might see me putting on womans boots. Can’t think why!? 
yeah, careful about their boots. I bought a pair once and they didn;t even last one wear! i tried to take them back and they said that it was to be expected of synthetic leather!
Lesson: only but actual leather boots from there

Wonder if Albany No1 Shoes has em, they’d be a nice change from boots alla time.
You say they have good pirate ones?
I ask because i want to slowly build up a stash of pirate costumes and get some ideas for my pirate themed wedding set to be held on national speak like a pirate day 2010 
I don’t wanna spend aaaaaarrrrrrse loads if you know what i mean. If anyone has any ideas too about costumes that would look good (wedding good )… especially for me Eddy and the bridal party… That would be great. Living in nelson doesn’t really make it easy to shop for good costumes!
Shopping for good costumes isn’t easy anywhere in NZ. That’s why most of us end up making them. Ebay has some lovely things though, depending on budget. Of course, there’s also a lot of rubbish to wade through on there.

no.1 is not very good for larping, all of the shoes hardly handle wet weather and fall apart easily.
I can get people army boots for $40 each, only issue is that they only have males sizes and normally dont have all sizes (last time i went the Jungle boots they had were sizes 8.5, 11.5 and 12) so if you’re maybe keen on a pair of $150+ pair of boots for quite cheep and brand new send me through your size and i’ll sort out having another trip to the store.
As sturdy, reliable, and watertight as they are, army boots unfortunately don’t suit a lot of LARPs … but they ARE handy to have, and I’m quite fond of my British Army regulars…
Aside from Madwolf’s amazing offer, is the K road army surplus store any good for them? Would be the way to go for womens sizes
I have a pair that I got from a shop in Chch. The surplus store on K rd sometimes has them, but it’s a matter of luck. Sometimes they don’t even have matching pairs.
They’re not really suitable for a medieval larp though - way too modern looking, especially for women. Maybe a warrior character?
oh well, time has come for me to move away from the base that has the disposals section so i am no longer able to get this great deal for people.
