Dear Friends,

As you may know, I have been trying to organise Acting and Shakespeare workshops by the very qualified and highly experienced Kirsty Hamilton (CV attached).

Initial interest in the workshop have been extremely encouraging thus far but it has taken us a while to find a suitable date/time/venue. However, I am pleased to announce the details for Kirsty’s Acting & Shakespeare workshops, which are open to both the general public as well as members of Stage Two Productions:

Workshop Structure

Kirsty’s workshops will be based on the experience and principles that she practices as an actor, derived from Stanislavski, Kristin Linklater , Sanford Meisner, Uta Hagen, Cicely Berry, Jeremiah Comey, Stella Adler, Mike Alfreds and many others, with four primary objectives:

a) developing a group work ethic: listening skills and team play are honed through many different improv situations and trust exercises;

b) focus on employing the actor’s imagination through improvisation and the introduction of script: actors are giving a series of elements that provide the basis of scenes that they will fully develop themselves in groups and pairs to present to the rest of the group; then

c) following the scenes made up from only a few elements, students will be given scenes with only a little dialogue where the central focus then becomes the emotional connection and history between two or more characters on stage; and

d) how to decipher the actor’s role in regards to interpreting a full script by exploring techniques such as Mike Alfred’s, Stanislavski and Comey, looking at intentions, beats, and actioning and using these techniques in a very real manner by getting the actors to actively employ them ‘on the floor’.

Kirsty’s workshops will definitely be highly beneficial, particularly for those who have not had formal training as it will give you an insightful cross-section of the fundamental principles of modern acting. For those of you who are trained or have had experience, it will still be a worthwhile refresher which will probably be equally enlightening!
