Seeking actors for 6 min movie epic

Hello, I’m John. Just joined after having you recommended by a poster on the 48 Hours film-makers community. I’m excited by the digital video revolution and the democratisation of film-making and wanting to do something with that. So I hope this notice is close enough to your interests to be OK here …

Auditions: Test scenes for “Askar” (This notice expires Sat night 04 Aug 07)

Emerging film-maker with almost-impossible ambitious fantasy epic movie project seeks actors.
First phase is test scenes doubling up as a student online game assignment.
Involves creating about 6 minutes of final running time over 2 planned shoots: Thu 09 Aug 6pm to 10:30pm … Sun 12 Aug 2pm to 5pm
Experimental digital, no-budget, unpaid at this stage.
Based in Auckland.

A young priestess sets out on a quest to bring peace to her war-ravaged country. She gets to wield great spiritual and political power, but pays a great personal price. Themes include: life would be simpler and easier if enemies were totally evil but our characters need to struggle with their discovery that such is not the case.

Roles for the initial test filming are:
JENA - 19 - Female - novice Priestess
ZAREK - 20-26 - Male - Irresponsible prince starts on the road to maturity when he joins Jena’s quest.
GALEN - 21-30 - Male - Companion to Zarek has a hard time being Zarek’s sensible minder.
DARTIE - 19 - Female - Commonsense fisher-girl is not who she seems.
MYSTIC - 30-500 depending on interpretation - Female - sinister magical hermit.

Ethnicity open. Advantage voice ability to perform in an English or exotic accent. Running auditions Thu night 02 Aug at MIT or talk to me about meeting at other times.

Any costume requirements for the test screening?

Carl wrote “Any costume requirement …”

Hi Carl, in a word “no”. In the filmmaking community I’m coming from - mostly the 48 Hours competition - it is the custom for the filmmaker to organise the costume although of course I’ll gratefully accept all help. First and foremost I’m looking for people who would be into the acting.

The setting is an imaginary fantasy world. We intend to base the look on the dark ages and/or outpost classical civilisation (eg Bactria, Armenia) and for the first test filming keep it simple.

It is… Wow, then what 48 hour competition was I in then, every team i have been in have asked me to empty my wardrobe and bring the lot. (the last two years were the only ones I have not entered in)

so this is just an audition/screen test, sweet.

cheers

Hola,

This would be another John lurking around this haunt. I hold myself as something of an actor, and this has arroused my interests. I do have something of a faux British accent as well. Once I finally get some damned credit on this phone, I’ll be able to text you for further info.

Danke schon.

What I was trying to say was that you don’t have to provide costume to act in my movie (although it would be a nice help) - I’d borrow/make/improvise/hire for you if need be. “Organise” can mean asking rather than ordering all participants of whatever background to empty their wardrobes.
