Searching for a 1930's venue for a smal Larp

Hi, Im looking for a place to run my Larp ‘While we whait for Stalin’ a game set in Russia 1932. I ran it in Norway with great sucsess, so now i want to run it for you New Zealander. In noway i used a very old factory bunker as the game setting, somthing simiar would be good, but any 1930’s location would work fine. any ideas? Ocne i find location i will officially anounce the game

Billy goats point on Mototapu Island would be ideal. It has several bunkers, consisting of maybe a dozen rooms, that wew built during WWI. It’s pretty much out of the way so if you ran a game outside the holiday season you’d probably not see any members of the public. We larped there many many years ago and at that time you could catch a ferry to Mototapu and walk out to Billygoats point. The walk may have taked a couple of hours, but if you’re in military fatigues with military packs then that could be quite cool…

Agree with Derek - that’d be a superb location for this.

WOW this looks like an amazing location, its not quite what im looking for, the game im running is not action at all. But i will have to go and check that location out for other games!! I only need two rooms for the entire game im running. the game will be between 3-5 hours long, and there is only room for 7 players.

If you only need a few rooms then why don’t you use that bunker on the shore that we used for Mordavia:Perilous Paths during the Captain Calyn rescue mission?

That’s in Kennedy Park. You’d need to get the keys from the North Shore City Council to use it, but don’t see why they wouldn’t lend them again if you asked nicely. I said I was from a community drama group when I borrowed them, and that would be even truer for your event.

Very suitable for an underground bunker, and it has a couple of rooms. There’s a fair amount of grafitti in there, but otherwise the atmosphere is perfectly gloomy. There is no electric lighting and no power sockets, but the society has a generator if you needed power.

hehe, i dont want to sound picky here, but it is not a soldier larp, its a meeting of influential people, so there will be served food and drink. An old house, or an old facktory would suit fine. I used a old shut down brewery where events are beeing held once in a while when i ran the game last, ile need a kitchen and stuff, it needs to be relatively warm as well as the player will do alot of sitting around.

For a smaller player base this might be appropiate:

arc.govt.nz/arc/auckland-reg … -lodge.cfm

Its right down the road from Kiwanis Huia Camp where we played Mordavia Sanctuary, but Its all one big building instead of spread out Chalets.

Alternatively Kiwanis might be good too. The building you used as the crew room at Sanctuary has a nice old feel to it.

Theres no mention what facilites may be available inside or if you’d even be able to get access, but you could try here:

Wow that has to be ideal…!

yes, that is pretty good. Maybie we should set up a database for good LARP’ing venues, im sure that people will benifitt from it. Thanks heaps guys!!

I’m working on a worldwide venue wiki, but plagued with compatibility issues.

I think that may be part of the Naval Base.

Ange would know though.
