Sanctuary rocked

Last night I played the Sanctuary LARP at KapCon, and it rocked. More plot than you could shake a stick it, great set dressing, and many emotional moments. I didn’t achieve much of what I was planning, but it was great regardless (and I achieved a lot I wasn’t planning).

An excellent LARP. Now I want more. There’s a rich setting there, and I’m wondering whether it could be mined for a sequel…

But seriously, I was thrilled by how much stuff (emotional, physical, spiritual) that the players brought to the game. There was this wonderful atmosphere in the room the whole time, and it was immense fun wandering about eavesdropping on everyone. Many of the plotlines turned out to be so much richer than we’d planned them to be, and it was just magic.

I have vague thoughts about a smaller Larp with some similar aspects but a lot darker - Renaissance Tragedy instead of Renaissance Comedy, but right now it’s only a vague ‘what-if’.

Yeah, same. It was fun how a lot of stuff twisted around, bouncing off the other players’ actions.

Awesome game.

Photos look good, and it looks like you did a great job of covering up the many of the modern wall decorations. Sounds like a cool larp.

It’s now all online here:

Ooo!! It sounds incredibly awesome.

Does the availability of the game info on the wiki there mean that it’s allowed to be run by other people, or is there someone one would have to ask for permission first?

You’d need permission from me, Sean and Naomi, although I think is pretty likely they’d say yes. I’d like to do some tidying up and a few revisions based on the actual play before releasing it into the wild, though.

Congrats on running such a well-received larp, Steph.

Hm, maybe I’m stupid, but can’t find the photos?

Note that I think that the set-dressing was great for what it was (a low-budget one-off larp at a general roleplaying convention), and a great improvement. It compares really well to photos Iv’e seen from other larps like that (in UK and USA) and previous Kapcon photos.

It wouldn’t be fair to compare the production values with a high-budget campaign in a venue-of-choice, that’s a different ballgame I reckon.

$5 a head and it had to be in Wellington High School.

Fortunately, scrounging skills are strong in us.

I’m fine with other people running it elsewhere. Some characters might need to come with warnings though.
