Role Models (the movie)

Has anyone else seen this movie? I watched it tonight and I can’t tell you how surreal it was to watch a movie which had larping as a fair chunk of the plot in a mainstream Hollywood movie. I was really surprised at how funny it was. It took the piss out of larpers but not in a mean spirited way. I found myself laughing at a lot of it and thinking how much I actually knew some people like that

Even better, it’s great advertising. We had a new girl at Knightshade this weekend who had seen Role Models and wanted to try larping. Role Models, Google, new larper! I’m seriously pleased.

(Welcome, Gemma, if you’re reading this)

I have, and I was alternating between cringing at how accurate some of it was, and how laughing at how accurate some of it was.

I’m surprised more people haven’t got into larping that way! Role Models has been out for awhile I think. But yay for me because it’s such an awesome story of how I got into LARP.

Gemma

wow it has larping in it?

isn’t the rest of it just really low brow american comedy.

its funney - laugh more

This movie was funny. It took the piss at larp to begin with and then it showed that it could be damn fun.

At least 1/3 of this movie contains LARP. Not too mention that it has a rather fun LARP battle scene that essentially ends the movie.

And yeah it is cool this movie meant we got 1 new LARPer to play!

Gemma watched on Wednesday, emailed me Thursday (I think) and was playing on Saturday… that has got to be one of the coolest “How I got into LARP” stories. 8)

So yeah, yay for low brow american humour!

On a similiarish note, on Sunday, at 8:30pm, on the Documentary Channel ( i assume that is a sky option) is a documentary called Monster Camp. It is about the Seattle Nero larp. Variety called it “endearing as it is amusing”.

Monster camp is terrible.

This movie is the reason I signed up lol. Good movie. Havent been to any events yet, but looking forward to it.

Welcome to our community  If nobody has tried to recruit you to Chimera yet, let me be the first! Chimera is a great way to try out larping because you get to try six different games/genres out in one weekend, and because so many people have signed up, you also get to meet most of the community.

Ah anna, if the army hired you as a recruiter, their numbers would double :stuck_out_tongue:

I love this movie… It was the reason i realised thats what i wanted to do! I love this movie i watch it over again all the time… I love that larp… I sorely wished i was there the entire movie!
