Rebecca

It is with great sadness that I have to let you know that Rebecca Mahan or Becky as she was known to most of us passed away on Sunday morning after a long fight with cancer.

Becky was a good a friend, and she had one of the most accepting and bubbly personalities I have ever known. She loved role playing and was one of the ST’s of New Horizons and before that Auckland Requiem (Interesting Times).

Her funeral is this Thursday at 2pm at the Rose Gardens in Parnelle, and everyone is invited to attend.

The world is worse off for having lost her, and our thoughts are with her family and her husband Taz.

I remember Becky primarily from OWBN, as I never played in any of the other games. While I did not know her well, she was always pleasant and friendly. I regret that I didn’t take the time to get to know her better.
Unfortunately, I won’t be able to attend the funeral, but I offer my sincere condolences to her friends and family.

I’m sorry. I think I met her last year at Chimera, and I thought she was really nice.

Rebecca was an amazing and kind woman, one of those gorgeous personalities that leaves you feeling more cheerful for having even a five minute conversation. She always had a kind word to say and a sunny smile. I only knew her for two years, and will always wish I’d known her for longer. She has been heavily involved in the roleplaying community for many years, mostly in the White Wolf larps of Auckland, but we have also had the pleasure of having her join us for both “The Flight of the Hindenberg” (Major Sabrina Rahn) and “The Great Exhibition” (Josephine Butler), as well as in “The Curse of the Pharaoh”

She will be very much missed :frowning:

Thanks for those photos Anna, it made me realise that Rebecca was the women at The Great Exhibition who really made that game for me, she was excellent in her role and really made me appreciate the feminist theme in the setting. Very sad to hear this news.

For those that knew Rebecca and would like to be at the funeral, just a reminder that it is tomorrow (Thursday 23rd July) at 2pm in the Parnell Rose Gardens.

Wear Pink, she would have loved it.

Rowena posted this on the New Horizons forum and I think it’s a great idea:
Some of us have decided to wear pink accessories to the funeral in celebration of who Becky was. Hair ties, ribbons, jewellry, ties etc.

It would be lovely if others would like to join us in this. Taz thinks it is a good idea and I think Becky would really appreciate the sentiment. The funeral is about remembering who she was as a person, and pink just sums her up!
I was lucky enough to meet her at Chimera last year back before I really knew any of you Aucklanders. We had some great interaction together in a couple of games. Memorable stuff.

After the Great Ex she was driving past me, and stopped to roll down the window to thank me for RPing with her and providing some really strong moments for her characters. It made me feel really nice and welcomed into the Auckland community and definitely contributed to the warm fuzzy vibe I got from Chimera.

So sorry to hear about this. Thoughts are with you Taz and everyone else who knew and loved her.
