Hello,
Linda/Tali/Shades here, depending on which name you know me under. I’ve put together a LARPing-specific first aid course that’s had one run so far in Auckland and a second coming up at the end of the month, and I’ve been wondering if there’d be any interest in it being run at one of the Wellington conventions some time in the future. I’ve been volunteering for St John for over 12 years now and LARPing for about three years.
Where workplace first aid courses teach you how to manage a situation in a nice, tidy office with a first aid kit within screaming distance, I teach how to keep someone alive when they’re at the bottom of a hill with a broken arm or worse and the closest thing you have to a first aid kit is someone’s healer’s kit with very grubby bandages.
LARP-grade first aid is a mixture of workplace first aid and outdoor first aid geared specifically to LARPing. Specifically it’s how to take the bits and pieces of what you have on you and keep someone alive until the ambulance gets there. It covers basics like how to do CPR, manage an unconscious patient, macgyvering slings, splits and bandages, how to recognise when something is bad, what to do about it and what to tell the call taker. It’s also very applicable in real world settings should you be out and about and come across an emergency.
Please let me know if this would be of interest.
Thanks!
