Question for Wellington

Hello,

Linda/Tali/Shades here, depending on which name you know me under. I’ve put together a LARPing-specific first aid course that’s had one run so far in Auckland and a second coming up at the end of the month, and I’ve been wondering if there’d be any interest in it being run at one of the Wellington conventions some time in the future. I’ve been volunteering for St John for over 12 years now and LARPing for about three years.

Where workplace first aid courses teach you how to manage a situation in a nice, tidy office with a first aid kit within screaming distance, I teach how to keep someone alive when they’re at the bottom of a hill with a broken arm or worse and the closest thing you have to a first aid kit is someone’s healer’s kit with very grubby bandages.

LARP-grade first aid is a mixture of workplace first aid and outdoor first aid geared specifically to LARPing. Specifically it’s how to take the bits and pieces of what you have on you and keep someone alive until the ambulance gets there. It covers basics like how to do CPR, manage an unconscious patient, macgyvering slings, splits and bandages, how to recognise when something is bad, what to do about it and what to tell the call taker. It’s also very applicable in real world settings should you be out and about and come across an emergency.

Please let me know if this would be of interest.

Thanks!

Personally i think is’s a good idea, and can only help the Larp community. you have my vote and i’d love to do a course if possible

Very keen on such a course doing the rounds here in Wellington. I’d definitely take part if you ran it!

Having done a lot of first aid courses and quite a few outdoor and specialised first aid courses there is quite a difference there. And given we often have larps where it is harder for ambulances to get to you, especially quickly, I think this is a great Idea.

Depending on when you run it, I would come along and do a refresher. I would certainly be promoting it as something people should try and get too.

I agree with Scott- I think this is a great idea. I’d definitely be keen to attend.

I think this is a brilliant idea, and would love to partake in a course

I’ve never done any first aid training and this sounds incredibly useful. I’d certainly be in.

Count me in also. I’ve never actually had a chance to do first aid training when it comes up.

I’d be up for it, too. Thanks!

Awesome, that’s certainly enough for a class. There’s tentative plans for something on the 4th of August after ConFusion on the 3rd. I can take a maximum of 10 people per class, if there’s enough interest I might be able to run two on the day.

I’m definitely interested too. Useful real-world skills to have.

I’m keen too.

Thanks for organising

Me too.

Me too please! (Especially if it’s being run closer to the city than Wainuiomata). What would you be interested in charging?

It’s a detail that’ll be hammered out in the coming days, I’m currently awaiting permission from the office to be off that weekend- the joys of shift work and all.

It looks like the office is letting me out for the 4th of August after Ellen’s ConFusion on the 3rd. She and I are currently hammering out details now, we’ll keep you posted
