Pouches

So, I got a couple of cows of thin coloured leather cheap over TradeMe, and while the primary purpose is hilt-wraps, I’ll have plenty of leftovers. So, pouches. First up was a basic rectangular pouch - work out how big you need something to be to get your hand into, cut a rectangle twice that long (so, 8 x 14 inches), fold, saddle stitch the sides together (with optional glue to keep it there while you stitch it), turn inside out, punch an even number of holes round the top, thread with one or two drawstrings to taste, and instant pouch. Of course, it doesn’t attach to a belt, unless you tie it, so you need something to put your pouch in - a bigger pouch perhaps? So, on to version two:

(Rectangular pouch with belt loop and top flap)

I need to add beads or something to the drawstrings before I tie them off, to provide a stable closure, and some way of keeping the flap down. Any hints on the latter? I can stick a loop on it, and a button on the pouch, but that means closure will depend on the fullness of the pouch. Or I can do it the other way - but that means ties getting in the way when I want to open it. Any other options?

I would leave the flap as is when it’son a belt with stuff in it I think gravity will hold the flap down… or you could just add some heavy metal flourishes to help hold it down…
