Pointy Ears

Where does one acquire pointy ears from? I need some for the Multiverse day game this Saturday, and since I’ve never played an elf, I don’t have a pair lying around handy.

Could anyone tell me where I can get them from, or, alternately, kindly lend them to me for Saturday?

I think I’ve got some in my bag of goodies. I’ll take a look tonight. But if anyone else can help, that would be great since it means I’ll be able to kit out some NPCs.

There is a store on Mt Smart Rd, it has costumes for hire and little things for sale, they have ears of all sorts, as well as glue for them. Adam would know the exact address.

I could lend you mine, and I think I have glue there too, if you can come around to pick them up today or tomorrow evening.

I’ve got some you can have for this Saturday. PM me to arrange.

So now that I have three months to prepare for the weekend game, where do I get my own set of ears? I’m after one of those really cute, delicate latex tips you attach with spirit gum - do people buy those somewhere, or did people make them?

I make my own. They are not as pretty as the ones you buy, but they are cheaper.

I will be doing another batch for use in Multiverse, and can sell some to anyone who wants them.

IIRC, Adam paid $30 for the ones he used by as Megalindir in Mordavia.

I think the homemade ones are actually better looking than most shop ones.

The shop ones are typically too big and the colour usually looks wrong.

The homemade ones are usually uncoloured latex, which gives them a reasonable pakeha skin colour and also makes them slightly translucent which makes them more natural-looking.

To make them you just make a clay (or fimo or whatever) model of the eartip, paint it with liquid latex, then peel the latex off once dried. You can mix a little bit of paint with the liquid latex if you want a different colour.

It’s much simpler than making a latex mask, because you’re not making a plaster negative.

Out of curiosity, which of these looks more Malnibonean?

Every illustration of Elric I remember seeing had his long hair, a crown or a helm completely covering his ears, so that’d rule out the huge ones.

Although if we’re trying to make distinctions between the races more easily recognisable then I’d suggest the larger ones. No point having cool pointy ears if no one can see them under you hair.

I saw better last time I googled.

EDIT: Oh here they are…

Those do look pretty good.

I reckon the “Small Ear Prosthetic”. Like Tolkien, Moorcock describes some character’s ears as “leaf-shaped”. Which is quite a mild description. And you don’t see Elric’s ears sticking out from his hair, so they can’t be that long. I reckon concentrate more on a Melnebonian costume for recognition.

The ear cuffs they sell might suit Melnibonians and cover up the join.

Me too. Smaller rather than bigger. Remember, Vadhagh should have makeup to make their eyes appear almond-shaped, so the presence of pointy ears and normal eyes will identify characters as Melnibonéan.
