Hi, I’m looking on behalf of a friend who would like to join anyone playing in Tauranga/Mt Maunganui area. I don’t know much about this at all, but have seen some people doing what looks like LARPing in Memorial Park on weekends. Any info greatly appreciated, thanks.

I think one of the organisers of the Wellington larp “Hindenburg” lives in Tauranga. Name is nishatalitha, and I think you can find them on www.nzrag.com/bb - might know of any Tauranga events.
Does this link have anything? larp.meetup.com/cities/nz/tauranga/ - I can’t visit it from work to check.
Otherwise I’d suggest approaching the people in Memorial Park and asking. Let them know about this forum too, we’d be interested to hear from them.
You memorised the directory structure?
It comes up in google, but if his network is anything like mine that search result is blocked. So he can see the url but canned see the content.
I checked it from home and its looks like a networking/dating type site with the option to make public “meetups”.
Unfortuntaly to respond to the two posters listed looking for larp in Tauranga you have to sign up to the site and then publish an event of the type the posters are looking forbefore you can respond to them.
Seems a bit laborious.
I live in Tauranga as well and have seen the group at Memorial park (saw them today [sunday 13/3/11] down there) and LOVE the idea of LARP, though I haven’t ever done it before, I am really interested in it as well. I’m planning to go there some day and maybe just watching and (if I have the courage lol) asking about it. But if anyone knows or belongs to the group down there I’d love to know if it IS LARP, and if I’m allowed to come watch? It looks awesome! 
I have a friend who has larped with us in Auckland who recently moved back to Tauranga. She might be interested too if someone can post some more info here I can pass on?
i think you may be referring to a tauranga based steelfighting/medieval re-enactment group called the northern horde,their a cool lot and if you go up to them im sure theyll let you join but yeah,not larp

If you can get 10 players together, then I’ll scoot over and run an LRP for you. It will be a low immersion Vampire Hunt that will be between 2-4 hours long. I can supply enough basic boffer weapons and basic costuming to run a game. You will need to get permission from the city council to use a park. You want a large area with lots of trees and copses. A rugby field is not suitable. The system used will be Quest Lite. This is good for starting an ‘Adventuring’ style game. We do practice in the afternoon, then a game in the evening.
