Photos from MAFIA 2071 LARP

This has been posted on the NZRAG forum, but for those that do not visit that site regularly the post is also below.

Thank you to everyone that played / lent props to / help out in any way for the the LARP.

As organizers we just provide to tools for the game to happen, it is the players that make this (and the rest of Kapcon) such a success.

I played the photographer, and the photos taken can be found at:

I had a great time, and hope that everyone else did too. For 2010 I challenge anyone still running on post con buzz to volunteer to help Naisa produce what will be yet another great LARP.

Thanks sidicus, they look amazing. You guys did such a fantastic job on the larp, I was so pleased I could come and be a part of it.

I had a really really awesome time at the larp (and indeed, the rest of Kapcon) - everyone looked amazing, the props looked amazing, the game was well written…I could rave forever but right now I’m too exhausted (just got back to Auckland a few hours ago) It was an absolutely smashing, fast moving, nonstop larp and I felt right in the thick of it even though I didn’t achieve so many of my goals. Despite this, I must’ve made something of an impression because to my immense, gobsmacked surprise the next evening at the prizegiving, I found out I tied for “Best Player” for the larp! :open_mouth: Can I just say how stoked I am about that? I couldn’t believe it, I was sure they meant a different Anna!

Can I just say, before I crash into sweet oblivion for the next 12 hours, that this was so fantastically amazing, and so so worth going to and I think every single one of us that went this year will be going back next year (Tigger’s on board for next year too) so if you’ve ever been tempted by KapCon, next year is the year to give in to temptation and come down with us. I’ll be organising the group again, so it will all be efficient and organised in advanced

I’m babbling incoherently now but oh my god, it was so epic.

Glad we met everyone’s expectations.

I was a little worried that after Flight of the Hindenburg had been run up north, people would expect that style and quality of game. We were a completely different team with a very different style and level of LARPing experience so I am very glad MAFIA 2071 was well received.

As to your nomination for best player, I avoided you most of the night because you looked a bit too angry to be photographed, and my partner (on the drinks table) even commented on how your entire demeanor changed after you took a moment to have a drink.

Incidentally a bit of trivia you and Nikki may be interested in:
The rivalry between Beatrice and Jenni was caused when Charlie Dread, a member of Jenni’s gang who tried to kill Beatrice for the Irish Mob. He knew Beatrice could only identify him by the unique bike and leathers he was wearing, so he gave them to Jenni to gain status in the gang. This lead to Beatrice blaming Jenni for the failed hit and trying to repay her in kind.

Hehe - Actually Anna and I were discussing this on the walk home from the larp and we thought it was really cool taht both of our chracters hated each other for nothing and then I read the write up on the NZRAG forum and this fell into place. Very cool BTW.

I had an amazing time at the Con and especially teh LARP, thanks again for all teh effort you guys put into it. You really know how to throw a LARP. I was especially impressed by the props.

Thanks also for making us feel welcome down in Wellington and I hope we can do the same for you if you ever come up to Auckland.

Ahhh, so that’s why there are almost no photos of me! I was wondering about that. In real life I’m actually a nice and friendly person, so I played Beatrice for a real roleplaying challenge and, despite my angry frown, I was having a truly brilliant time.

Ahhhh! Thanks, I was wondering about that.

Hey, can you tell me who actually ended up successfully putting the hit on Beatrice in the end? I hear a lot of people were trying to do away with me

A quick look at the contracts lodged shows the following related to Beatrice:

Beatrice Bigio contracted Charolette Kain to perform a hit on Jenni Chrome of the NeoMafia in a pinaful, personal and discrete manner for the standard fee (plus a 5% sadism bonus)

Richard Nakashima contract Babs “the builder” to provide him the set of Admiral Yamamoto antique tables. In exchange Richard used his Yakuza contacts to perform a hit on Beatrice Bigio. The Yakuza contacts, padded with corporate cash and influence will show that Beatrice “went on holiday” and never came back.

Will have to see about publishing a post-larp wrap up based on the contracts when I have time and energy.

Ahhh, and Babs would’ve done that at the behest of Beatrice’s fiance who thought she was out to kill him
