Photos and feedback for Camelot

How did people find the use of foam weapon combat in a pregen game? I imagine that was a little different for those up from Wellington, be curious how it compared.

Looks like I’ll need to have a word with Lancelot

:open_mouth: Tell me more about it. Are you able to produce an heir for him?

In “Layamon’s Brut”, a chronicle in Middle English that covers Arthur in some detail, Arthur is transported after his death to Avalon, the island of the elf Queen Argante.

Ah, cool, then it is still up to my sister to produce an heir  So much plotting with Merlin behind Arthur’s back (on couple of photos you can see it literally, with Arthur speaking on front while Merlin is kneeling next to my chair behind him) to fix the heir problem and eliminate the Mordred threat!

I personally liked it, it added to the atmosphere, especially the 2 fights in the list. Not being used to it as a player (Walter gave me first sword fight on Sunday afternoon), and not being a fighting character I avoided combat and stuck to Political solutions. But I am going to encourage having it in the game when I run it in Wellington.

I thought I saw him mouthing the word “daughter” thoughtfully when Nimue introduced you that way.[/quote]

I had no idea; when I found out afterwards it all made perfect sense though.

Ditto. So, where can I get one of those fine weapons,a nd how many stupid people will I have to exploit on iPredict to get one?

I’m out of stock as Paddywhack, keep meaning to re-order.

There are some Ex-Caliber weapons available on TradeMe though:

That’s the brand of stock I used to have, they’re perfectly serviceable for the price. The ones on Trademe are leftover stock from the Medieval Shop in Auckland closing. There’s more here, mixed in with other stuff:

Thanks for that. Which gives me a convenient place to ask: where the hell can I get a ring belt? My current one is a) cloth rather than leather; and b) too short (60" rather than 72"). I’ve seen them online for a mere US$18… plus US$82 postage; is there a cheaper way?

Oh, and the wacky Christians seem to be having a sale on coifs. Unfortunately they don’t ship outside the US…

I might be able to help there - I’m going to be in the US over November/December and I can probably bring things back if they’re not too big/heavy. I’ll have to check with the people I’m staying with, if they’re happy for their house to be used as a delivery point. Also, there might be a problem with having to use an American credit card (happened to me once).
Pm if you’re interested, and I’ll check out the possibilities.

Awesome game! As the only character who wasn’t really royalty of some sort or another it was hard for me to talk to everyone and find out their secrets so on my part achieving my goals were really hard. That’s why i would love to play it again with a little more invovement.

IC I was completely forbearing, afterall being an angel what you do is listen to prayers… but OOC I was like “stop your stupid whining about tristan and just get on with marrying mark!” I spent so much time caught up in this plot that my other goals fell by the wayside. Having almost philosphical discussions with the pagan memebers was fun, and guarding my words as to not interfer in free will was a challenge.

The intensity of the connection between tristan and isolde was awesome to watch, considering i was the only character on the side of her marrying into a loveless marriage and finding solace in prayer instead of adultery or murder.

You will have to come down to Wellington where I am planning to run it .
But it just shows how cool the game was that so many players actually want to play it again but in different roles.

It’s funny I was heavily involved in the same plots as you and we had interaction but it was kind of very limited, because I was a King and you were a hand maiden. But I actually saw you doing little things here and there like making sure Isolde was doing what “she was supposed to”, bringing drinks to my character, having intense conversations with her. And I was really hoping to see how you (your character responded) to finding out that Tristan and Isolde were going to be together but that just happened to be exactly the same time that you passed on the secret of the Grail.

I signed up for this larp and right up to the point where I played, I was a little unsure about the whole ordeal. I really didnt know a whole lot about the tales of Arthur other than the really well known stuff. I was worried that my lack of knowledge would somewhat ruin the game for me. After the game, I was quite happy. Everything that I needed to know was in my sheet and I didnt feel at any point that I didnt have any information that I should have.

As Sir Galahad, I really enjoyed my role in the game. I felt like the peacemaker in the land, the knight who truely wanted a united britain and peace throughout the land. I enjoyed the respect that everyone gave my character for his deeds and admittedly found it a little hard at times to keep completely humble :stuck_out_tongue: My goal to stop the marriage of Leodegrance and Lyonesse was mostly successful (It wasn’t achieved in game but the position I held at the end of the game and steps I had taken in game meant that It would have succeeded sometime after the game). My interactions with my family, especially Vanya as Lancelot, were awesome and the scene where I became arthur’s right hand knight was so cool:D Possible improvements for my character? 2 things that come to mind. I would have liked slightly more information on leodegrance. Perhaps a small vision from god or some history about him. A little more of a hint into how to handle the situation would have helped me immensely.
2nd thing that I felt was missing from the character was some kind of spiritual ability. I felt like I needed to pray often in character, it would be very cool if Galahad could recieve the occasional word or feeling or vision from on high.

Overall, great game. I really enjoyed it, even if the chainmail absolutely killed my shoulders by the end

Try wearing if from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon, which is what I do as le Stirge. Mmmm, 23 pounds of mail… :exclamation: 'tis a good experience though. Makes you appreciate the hardships of the crusades a little wee bit.

I’ve finally gotten The Black Hart of Camelot all written up and pretty, and ready to be sold online as a ready-to-run larp.

Would anyone be willing to proofread it for me, and make sure it provides all the info someone would need to run it? It’s a Player Guide (10ish pages), a GM Guide (20ish pages), and 24 characters.

I’ll be donating the scenario to NZLARPS, so any member can run it for free.

Also, I’ve used a number of Judit’s photos from the game in the GM Guide, with her permission and credit to her. If anyone who played in the Auckland 2009 run would be uncomfortable having photos of them used for this, please let me know. The photos don’t give names for the players shown, but all the players from that run are credited as playtesters. Happy to send out a copy so you can check if you’re happy with the way images of you have been used.

I’m happy to proofread it, though it might be a while - exams in 3 weeks.

Can do, as well. Do the photos make us look pretty?
[vain person is vain. LOL!]

Cool, thanks guys. I’ll send it to Steph, as I’m keen to move along with making it available. Will send on Monday.

I’ll send you a copy too Daphne, and any feedback you have time to give before I publish it would be welcome.

I tried to chose photos of Judit’s that show folks in a good light. I used these:
