Photography at Chimera 2009

Our photographer for this year’s convention is our very own ninja-photographer, Judit Klein, who has been photographing larpers undisturbed in their natural habitat for over a year now. She’ll be taking photos during the entire event, which will be made available online soon after the weekend.

She will also be taking portrait shots at The Great Exhibition, which she will be selling nice prints of afterwards.

Personal cameras are, as always, welcome and encouraged.

Hoorah! Photos!

I fully understand if you skip my ramble and go straight to the shiny link at the bottom but please come back and read the ramble.

Usual drill, all photos have been retouched (colour, contrast, crop etc) so they look nicer. I am still learning my way around lighting in different settings, especially low lighting and indoors, so bare with me on this in some sections. Have used some creative license in manipulation of colour where I felt appropriate. Feel free to download, repost, email, print and the like but please credit to me where appropriate. If for whatever reason you would like any of the photos removed, just message me. If any of the album descriptions is inaccurate, let me know as I just copied these straight from the Chimera website games page.

At this point in time, I have worked through the photos from most of the games but still to come are photos from Final Voyage of the Mary Celeste, St. Wolfgangs, and The Great Exhibition. These will be up during the week. One or two of the games I didn’t take photos of because there wasn’t much happening physically / visually or I didn’t want to disturb as it was contained in a small space.

Also important to note with The Great Exhibition, the portraits may take that little bit longer to get ready and these will be posted in a slightly different location and these will be for sale as prints. The location, pricing and ordering procedures will be advised. I love how excited and eager everyone gets in anticipation of the photographs and that makes me also eager and excited but please bare with me as I am also at uni every day of the week.

Thanks for having me around, I love being there and taking the photos and I hope I wasn’t too obtrusive especially as this time I had the large flash attachment as well which blinded everyone. Especially big thanks to those of you who came up to me and thanked me in person, it meant a lot to me that you took the time to do that. Any feedback is most welcome so any questions, comments, queries or even suggestions for next time, just message me.

Now onto the photos!

Yay photos!

Thanks Judit, it’s awesome to see the photos of games I wasn’t at. The photos from Nobody Loses an Eye! had me laughing all the way through, and this photo from Bad Dreams is surely one for next years’ Chimera website, the lighting and costuming is superb:

Sorry for bossing you around at Camelot, I get terribly picky about how games start and was trying to avoid having an OOC person in view when the characters entered the play space. I realised afterwards that I’d probably moved you from the perfect place to capture shots of the characters as they were introduced to Arthur.

few behind the scene videos and photos up=

I agree with Ryan - that is an excellent photo. Who is that in the picture? For some reason I can’t figure it out.

And yes, Judit is very good at taking pictures in a relatively unobtrusive manner. I think there was at least one time during the weekend when I suddenly realised she’d already been taking pictures for a while before I noticed she was there. What would we do without the Klein sisters?

Oh, with those photos that were put on Facebook, do you have to be logged into an account to look at them? I can’t seem to figure it out otherwise.

It Looks like Hannah.

It is indeed, Friday night - Bad Dreams. I was The Dragon, leader of the Dragon cult, who had gained the process of not ageing (slightly different from immortality), so I had plenty of time to wait for The Master to arrive, and could sit back and watch the mere mortals scurry around in panic. And yes, awesome photo, thanks Judit, I’ll contact you to buy a copy.
