Paddywhack - October 2011 order

Hey there,

I’ve updated the Paddywhack website with new products, images, and prices:

www.paddywhack.co.nz

I’m taking orders for the next week, until Monday 17th Oct. The plan is to get your orders in by Teonn on Dec 2nd.

Ordering in advance is the sure way to get the exact item you want. Browse through the “Special order” categories to see what’s available. There a chance I’ve made mistakes in pricing or lengths, please do ask if something looks out of place.

Things of interest:

NZLARPS member discount
Members of NZLARPS get a 20% discount off all the prices listed on the website.

Cheap-as gear
With the NZLARP discount you can get Squire longswords for only $81.60. Sword holders are only $11.20. All the leatherworks have gotten slightly cheaper, as I’m getting a slightly better deal from the manufacturer. The Soldier sword is only $50.40 - it’s a shortsword listed in the Kid’s swords category, but all of the kid’s swords are perfectly suitable as offhand weapons, main weapons for characters whose main focus isn’t combat, or main weapons for poor monsters and they’re all cheap as.

Redesigned weapons
All of the weapons have been re-designed and re-coloured - some of the new versions were on show at Teonn in May. The Samurai sword in particular looks much improved, it has plenty of room for a two-handed Katana style grip now.

Scabbards
Check out the new scabbards section, with full-length leather scabbards. Note that you’ll need a hanger for your scabbard too. The “Scabbard belt mount” is the simplest, cheapest option. The “GP” mounts and sword tubes can be combined in allow weapons to be hung from the belt and on your back in various ways - I know it’s confusing so feel free to ask questions, I have some photos of the GP mounts assembled in various configurations which may make things clearer.

Baldrics
There are now several baldrics on offer. These are those cool-looking belts that go across your chest, with a buckle on the front, and they hang a sword at your hip. Yes I know, the deluxe version is absurdly cool but pricey.

Arrows
I’m now offering IDV arrows through the website, these are the ones that I had on offer at Teonn - I’ve sold all the ones I brought in for show and tell.

You can make orders using the website, or if that doesn’t work for you feel free to email me at ryanpaddywhack@gmail.com

Remember I’m only taking order until next Monday.

Cheers,

Ryan

Here’s an example of the back mount (GP) with a couple of sword tubes attached.

The back mount (GP) can also take a single sword tube, or a scabbard mount and full scabbard.

That looks wonderful! One question as the pics don’t make it quite clear - how do you attach the Scabbard Mount to the Back Mount?

Lacing. That’s what the holes are for.

Excellent, will be making back mount and sword tube order for next Teonn ( not dec, as not going ) - will work very well for my character

You are very bad for my wallet.

Sure thing, will make up an order for you.

At least you’re a member and getting the discount now.

As usual, if anyone would like gear but doesn’t have funds available right now, I’m happy for you to order now and pay later. I know that these orders don’t always coincide with people’s paydays and you have other costs, and I trust you guys.

EDIT: and payment in installments is fine too.

oooOOOOOOooo How much is the back mount? I can’t seem to find it online?

Look under “Scabbards”. The mount is second from the bottom, and you’ll also need one or two swords tubes. For the mount and two tubes, total is $94, or $75.20 with the NZLARPS discount. The sword tubes are best for shorter swords, because you have to pull the sword all the way up and out of the tube.

If you want to mount a single longsword on your back, you might be better off with the back mount and a “quick release” sword holder, which totals $86, or $68.80 with the discount. I haven’t got a listing for the quick release up yet, will do it this weekend. Basically it allows you to draw a longsword from your back without having to draw it all the way through a tube.

Just a reminder that Monday is the last day for orders.

I’m looking to mount a staff from my back… it doesn’t come in brown?

Note sure I can picture how that will work, I’m afraid. All the holders rely on the weapon having a hilt to stop it sliding all the way through the tube. Does the staff had some sort of projection half-way down to stop that?

I’d suggest just tying a loop of soft leather to your staff, a bit like a very loose bowstring, and using that to sling it over your shoulder. Something like this…

Today is the last day for orders, and I’m getting a rush of them. I’ll be making the order tonight.

Feel free to put your order through via the website or email ryanpaddywhack@gmail.com today.

So, that was quite a big order. I guess that reflects the growing size of fantasy larp here. NZLARPS got in 8 swords to be used by crew at Teonn and other games, lots of people special ordered weapons and leather, and I got in some extra stock much of which sold at Teonn. Hopefully everyone has their gear by now, via the various channels that I’ve delivered them.

I do have some swords and leatherwork left in stock, which you can check out at paddywhack.co.nz - including a full-length leather scabbard with belt mount. Might make a nice gift.

On a separate note, I’m happy to announce that myself and Michael Andrew have worked together to rebuild my supplier’s website, and I launched it live yesterday:

palnatoke.com

Palnatoke is one of the best respected manufacturers in Europe, with a reputation for high standards of safety and quality. The owner Kris is both an engineer and has impressive artistic talent. I’ve had a great relationship with them for some years as a retailer of theirs, and they liked what I’d done with my website which led to me re-making their site, enlisting Michael to help with the pretty stuff. Still some work to go, but it’s a solid foundation.
