Paddywhack - latex weapons and leatherworks

Hi all,

The stimulus of competition has made me get moving and finish the new Paddywhack website that I’ve been working to get live for weeks now.

paddywhack.co.nz

Check out the new stock, with new prices, and you can order online.

You won’t get better prices for weapons in NZ, and the quality of the weapons and leatherwork is superb. I especially recommend getting a sword holder, they are cheap as chips and really handy.

In three weeks on Nov 10 all the special orders received will be ordered in. Please make your order before Nov 10 to be in on this first batch. From then on special orders will be fulfilled regularly based on demand, and some popular items will also be held in stock.

The prices shown on the website are for the general public. The NZLARPs discount is now 20% off those prices. While this may seem less than the previous discount, you’ll find that all weapons are now actually cheaper for NZLARPS members than before. That’s because I’ve bought the public price down considerably, to make gear more affordable for everyone. NZLARPS members can now get a longsword for only $79.20!

If you are an NZLARPS member please enter your NZLARPS membership number under “Promotion Code” when submitting your order to qualify for the 20% discount.

Cheers,

Ryan

Very pretty.

So, a right-handed sword holder is for a right-handed person, and hangs on the left?

That’s right. And by that, I mean correct.

Here’s a quick tour of some items of interest.

Asian weapons
A pair of the Samurai sword in 86cm and 104cm would work as a great-looking katana and wakizashi, and a Tanto dagger would complete the set. Or for a more exotic asian look, the Dao is a nice Chinese backsword. The Woodland could also work as a somewhat fantastic take on an asian weapon.

Cheap as
For the cheapest longswords, check out the Squire. If you’re an NZLARPS member with the 20% discount, it’s only $79.20 for the 104cm or $72 for the 86cm sword. Or if you want an absurdly cheap shortsword, the Warrior is listed in Kid’s Swords but is perfectly suitable for anyone - I have one and use it the whole time. Only $49.60 with the discount. The Plain Belt is also great value for $44.80 if you’re with NZLARPS.

Full hands?
Carrying your sword around in your hand is fine if you’re on a bash-em-up adventure, but for a roleplaying game it’s nice to have somewhere to sheath it - other than sticking it through your belt, which hardly looks believable. The Sword Holder is your cheapest and simplest option, for only $12 with the discount. Next up is the Sword Hanger, which is longer, nicely decorated, and padded on the inside to protect the weapon. The Scabbards are also awesome-looking and suitable for people with more of a budget, with two mounting options that are bought separately.

And the rest
Then there are leather bracers and greaves, gloves, daggers, and so forth. Have a browse around, and click on the item pictures for a closer look.

I need a large axe, any chance of having one of those?

Those prices are pretty damn good. And this is coming from a complete tight-arse when it comes to purchasing larp weapons

Unfortunately the supplier does not have their axe range ready yet. When axes are available I’ll add them to the website.

By the way, the swords shown on the website are the 86cm length.

The 104cm length have longer blades, giving them somewhat different proportions than the items in the photos. I don’t have photos of those available but you can get a good idea from the photos on the site and a little imagination.

Bugger me. Thats pretty cheap.

What are the measurements on the weaponhangers?

Do you mean how large a diameter of weapon will fit inside one?

I have a sword holder at home, I can check that. The sword hangers appear slightly more generous in terms of what could fit into them.

Further news on axes - there are six styles of axe now available, but the photos will require some work before I can put them up. I will add the prices and descriptions to the site today, and then add the pictures when they’re ready.

There are also three styles of mace available.

The axes and maces are now up on the site, with images.

They’re somewhat pricier than the swords. Don’t know why, but perhaps the materials are more expensive or the time taken to craft them is longer.

So these are now available to order along with the rest. Orders by 10 Nov for this batch please.

Ryan, do you know what exactly size the bracers are? I mean the length and the circumference around the wrist and on the upper part? I’m specifically after warrior bracers, but just wanna be sure they’d actually fit me. Thanks.

Sure, I’ll look into it.

I’ll be ordering in all the special orders in one week from now, so please get your orders in now.

Aiwe and Muppet - I’m waiting to hear back on those sizes. I do have some medium-sized bracers so I’ll measure those up, and also measure the sword holder, which may answer your questions. I suspect medium bracers are probably what you want Lucy, I think small is more child-sized.

Oh cool. My wrist is 15 cm - would the medium size be ok for it? If yes I’d go order, thanks.

I’ve found that I have both small and medium size bracers at home, so I’ve measured them up.

Small:

  • 155mm around the wrist
  • 200mm around the upper forearm
  • 140mm in length from the wrist to the inside of the elbow

Medium:

  • 185mm around the wrist
  • 235mm around the upper forearm
  • 155mm in length from the wrist to the inside of the elbow

Lucy, given your wrist measurement it might seem like the Small is suitable, I’m just a bit uncertain as they look very small in person. I measured them flat, but I suspect the inside measurements compact when the leather is curved around the arm. If you want we could arrange for you to try the different sizes of bracers on - drop me a PM if so.

A question regarding the swords, if I may … do they tend to have enough room for a two handed grip? I’m particularly interested in the “Samurai”-style sword (as I am used to working with a bokken, and this seems the closest equivalent).

Most of the swords are intended to be used one-handed. The grip on the Samurai, Woodland and Cleaver is somewhat longer than the others.

I think the Samurai grip is 17.5cm, including the pommel. That would be enough for me to use it two-handed, but you may have larger hands.
