"Look," says #74 gently, “Eye removal is not the worst thing in the world. I’ve had it done a few times, and I bet they’d even use anesthetic for you.”

He doesn’t seem convinced.

“And they’re getting better at organ replacement at the resurrection station. You might get full use of your eyes back in months. Better safe than sorry, hm?”

BlackDahlia
Dahlia nods in agreement “I can provide anesthetic. You won’t feel a thing”
Dray stops and thinks for a moment looks down at his fathers family crest around his neck then back at #74 and and at dahlia. they seems determined to help him out with what ever could be wrong with him but he din’t want to endanger them in any way or waste any of there medical gear
"…ok you can do…" there is a huge amount of pain that hits dray in his eye he stumbles backwards he pulls off the patch with out thinking about hiding it and looks into the mirror he was holding and watches as he could only describe as his eye changing he drops to his knees panting in shock
"what the hell" Dray muttered under his breath
She pops her head around the corner and sees Ashton and Jane in deep conversation.

Jane summons a smile for #74 as she passes by, but it fades immediately once she’s out of direct line of sight. It was hard to think, hard to see what needed to be done objectively. Dr Daniel had sounded very certain that this was for the greater good, but Jane had only known him for a few days. She didn’t know what he was basing his claim on.

It would be bad for a group to go to Hell without someone there who knew what to expect, and It would be awful if they couldn’t come back. Jane didn’t think they would just not go because they didn’t have a guide. They didn’t seem to know how to use a JAB crystal properly either. Jane considered, for them to destroy a crystal in order to return home would be a loss, for them to destroy one and not even be able to make it back would be a tragedy.

And if Jane was with them she’s be trapped back there as well… in Hell… on a non-sanctioned mission based off the word of someone she’d only known a weekend. Should of course get trapped there on any mission, but it seemed somehow worse for it to happen while she wasn’t even on duty.

She looked up and realised she was in the taverna. She eyed the bar. She could drink now! Nothing was stopping her! but decided that just because she could didn’t mean she should. Like demon summoning. Lesson learned.

She spotted Lewy and Zek talking in a corner and, brightening up considerably, she trotted over to say hello.

“Hello!”

Dahlia in a panic, starts to crawl off her bed and on to the ground, avoiding her stitches breaking. Now on her knees, she moves to him. “Rend! Vi er nødt til at handle nu!”

Quickly correcting herself in a panic, she says “Something, now!”

“Nurse Blake, Doctor Swanhide, please help Dahlioctor Swanhilde back to her bed.” His words calm and professional.

Doctor Ashdown leant down next to the fallen man, “Can you make it over to the stretcher chap?”

Dray in a trans like state nods his head but doesn’t stop muttering to him self
“Nurse Blake, Doctor Swanhide, please help Dahlioctor Swnahilde back to her bed.” His words calm and professional.

Not wanting to be difficult, she just says “No, no, I’m fine here. Just… just let me sit” To be honest, she was relieved to not be on her stomach. It was starting to cause her pain. She takes a deep breath, remembering not to take things like this personally. Just because she can empathize with him, doesn’t mean she should overreact. “Stop acting like a child” she angrily thought to herself, “No one needs this from you, for goodness sake”

Looking back at Dray, she notices he doesn’t seem to be himself. Whatever was going to happen, it was happening now.

“Okay, good work. Ms 74 perhaps you can help me with the patient?”

He indicates to the unoccupied camp stretcher lying on the floor, next to Cailin.

“Do you require sedating Doctor Swanhilde? If your stitches burst a second time…” He let the warning hang in the air. He caught the eye of the woman’s protective father, hoping he’d be able to talk some sense into her.

Margaret moved to beside the kneeling Doctor Swanhilde, putting aside any personal feelings towards either of the doctors she’d aided for so long. Duty always came first. If there had been nothing else she’d learnt from her time as a military nurse, it had been that. “Doctor Swanhilde, I know you don’t like being bedridden but it really is the best thing for you right now.” She offered her hands to the pink haired woman for support.

She kept one eye on what was happening with Doctor Ashdown and Dray, ready to step in and help if she was needed. “Doctor Ashdown, do you need anything over there?”

She couldn’t help but think to herself “I would really love to see you try, because it probably won’t work”. Although her de-sensitivity to sedation isn’t something anyone should ever be proud of. But rather than kick up a fuss, which was highly unprofessional, she agreed and let Margaret help her back.

“Yes, it is” she whispered to Margaret in an apologetic tone. Later when things are quieter, she will obviously have to apologise to the others.
She spotted Lewy and Zek talking in a corner and, brightening up considerably, she trotted over to say hello.

“Hello!”
Lewy looks up from the Ouija board Zek had been using to communicate with him, and waves back at Jane. He drops his voice to barely a whisper, “We’ll talk about Moloch later, if you feel like talking about it. Probably over a lot of whiskey.” He raises his voice to normal levels, and continues, “and here’s the woman herself! Jane! We were just talking about the trip to hell, and getting some hell-silver. Have the plans continued apace?”

“Ms 74 and I can move the patient Nurse Blake, however I’ll require a small vial of liquid morphine and a tray of fresh water, once you’ve checked Doctor Swanhilde’s stitches are still holding.” The Nurse and her father had hopefully reached her before she’d had much of a chance to aggravate her injuries.

“Doctor Swanhilde, I’m not sure a wheel chair will offer you much protection next time the hordes of hell come knocking.” He hoped the words would strike a chord with her, it seemed his earlier warning hadn’t. In his experience doctors always made the worst patients.

Dahlia realized she will have to swallow her pride until Daniel says she can get up. “Doctors make the worst patients” she laughed quietly to herself. And after all, she is hardly needed for the meantime. Perhaps she should just accept this and rest for the first time in a awhile. It had been years since she had had a proper sleep

“I’m sorry, Daniel…” She says, and resumes her position back on the bed

Jane sits down next to them “Yes.” she sounds a little uncertain “but shh! It’s apparently meant to be secret. Don’t worry, I didn’t know that either.” her eye’s fix on Zek’s mouth for a moment before more politely meeting his eyes. “Don’t worry, I’ll get it. I just need some, er, supplies. It’ll work!” she adds, in case someone was having doubts.

#74 takes Dray’s arm gently and tries to guide him down on to a stretcher. He seems to have given in, albeit reluctantly.

“It will all be over in minutes,” she promises. “And because you get anesthetic, you won’t feel a thing. Doctor Ashdown,a quick word?”

She moves closely to him, and feels her hands spasm painfully. Must be due for some more opium. The shipment’s not due until next week.

“We might need a demonologist, and I suggest strapping him down for this. Even with the anesthetic, it can…”

The memory: the resurrectionist is leaning over her, a rusty scalpel in hand. There are two airship guards holding her down. The pain is bearable, but when the resurrectinist begins to scrape
“It will all be over in minutes,” she promises. “And because you get anesthetic, you won’t feel a thing. Doctor Ashdown,a quick word?”

“Very sensible Ms 74. Perhaps you can see who is around with infernal knowledge, if nothing else there’s a wooden case with a number of my fathers books under the bar, bring those there may be something in there.”

“Thank you,” he added, “Oh and if you can find anyone who could help hold him down.” He looked around the room, Nurse Blake, the older Doctor Swanhilde neither of them were going to be much use in holding down the powerful man if he really started to struggle.

Reaching over to the metal trolley retrieving Doctor Swanhildes hand held magnifying scope together with a pair of thick leather straps. Unfurling the first restraint beneath the stretcher, flicking the brass buckle over Drays sternum.

“This might feel a bit tight chap, just bear with me,” Daniel pulled the rounded end through and as tight as he could manage, to pin the patients arms in place.

“Does that feel okay?” He asked, more out of politeness than anything else. Not waiting for a reply, the second strap was tightened around the mans thighs.

Now kneeling next to the patient, the doctor removed Drays top hat. No use getting a fine piece of millinery covered in blood he thought. Then considered the strange things that went through peoples minds in moments of chaos.

“Right I’m going to take a proper look at this, it shouldn’t hurt but try not to blink.” Pressing Dray’s head against the stretcher with the base of his right arm, Daniel gently eased the top and bottom eye lids open with his thumb and fore finger allowing him a proper look.

It was a bit odd that they were talking as if Dray wasn’t there. #74 went into the taverna and looked about.

“Are there any demonologists with strong stomachs who could assist with a medical emergency? Failing that, anyone strong enough to hold a violently thrashing man down?”
“Are there any demonologists with strong stomachs who could assist with a medical emergency? Failing that, anyone strong enough to hold a violently thrashing man down?”
Ivy steps back inside, once she is sure that Esther is going to be ok. Hearing #74’s request she detours into the Taverna.

“I can’t help much with the demonology, but I can certainly help. What’s wrong?”

“Dray’s eye’s gone a bit demonic and strange and everyone wants to take it out. Except for Dray, possibly. So we need some help holding him down or looking through Dr. Ashton’s books to make sure that this is the right thing to do, or even better, see if there’s a section dealing with demonic eyeballs. Ma’am.”

Lewy looks as if he’s about to reply to Jane when something in the main room of the taverna filters into his hearing. He looks at Zek and Jane, an eyebrow raised.

“Did someone out there just say something about demonic eyeballs ?”

“Yes.” Jane leans slightly to the right to see around the corner “By #74, so that’s pretty serious.” Jane leans back to the left. “You know Skye is meant to be my recuperation run, but something bad always happens when I’m here.” she looks down “and finding time to think is hard.”
