On Friday the Thirteenth…

On Friday the Thirteenth of November…

Daniel Edman and Juliet Thomborson will be hosting a mysterious LARP at The Gin Room, which is the second floor of Queen’s Ferry Hotel, 12 Vulcan Lane.

Cost: $15. This money will then be spent on the food and beverage of your choice – but the good people at the Queen’s Ferry have a minimum amount of money they would like to make and we have to make sure that such a goal is met.

When: 7.30pm, Friday the 13th of November

About: The premise is a modern game, with a touch of the occult, set in Chicago. The arguably philanthropic Iliana Thane, former model and widow of a media mogul, has invited friends and… others to a party she promises they will remember for a long time. Some thinks it’s about honouring the old Russian god Czernobog, others her late friend Bartholomew Huntington and yet others scoff at the idea of needing an excuse to party. What the night will bring, no one can tell.
The game will be using a very rules-light system.

The attendees are:

 1. Father Jonas Stromberg: Lecherous but sympathetic catholic priest, definitely male

 2. Karen Clifford: Computer whiz, queen of nerd memes
 3. Ichabod Schatz: Weird occultist and conspiracy theorist
 4. James Wrdava: Former acrobat and conspiracy theorist
 5. Miles Crawford: Actor and singer at the top of his career
 6. Maria Green: Crawford’s aide
 7. Ulysses James: High-profile attorney, definitely male
 8. Iliana Thane: Gold-digger, haute bourgeoisie and the evening’s hostess
 9. Franz Lauver: Celebrity astrologer
 10. Kensington S:t Clair: The ultra-wealthy, newly rich CEO of a real estate agency, definitely male
 11. Harriet S:t Clair: Aforementioned Kensington’s wife, mother of three, definitely female
 12. Cameron Lorne: Financial miracle worker
 13. Sebastian Farc: Inheritor of a vast fortune
 14. Maximilian Karst: Medical doctor known for his discretion
 15. April Killroy: Protégé of Iliana Thane
 16. Thomas Crane: Journalist and author
 17. Paris Huntington: The poor daughter of the late Bartholomew Huntington
 18. John Douglas: Seriously, who is this guy and how the Hell did he get invited?

Of course, they all have their secrets, so we would like you to please fill in this questionnaire and email it to DanseMacabreLARPs@gmail.com.
Most characters can have their gender bent (those who can’t are clearly indicated).

Are you…

 • Male?
 • Female?

Morality:I want a character that is…

 • Dastardly and Villanious
 • Valiant and Goodish
 • The ordinary neutral, self-serving sort

Romance: Do you want any?

 • Sure, it’d be nice, I don’t mind either way.
 • I don’t want to roleplay any kind of romance.

Activity: Out of the following, I’d most like to play a character that is… (rank in order of importance)

 • Pivotal - I’m a strong enough roleplayer to really carry plot
 • Emotional - I love a real in character experience!
 • Light hearted - I’m here for a bit of fun
 • Unusual - give me a quirky challenge
 • Knowledgeable - I like moving lots of information around
 • Inquisitive - I want to be the one finding things out

How comfortable are you with mature themes?

 • I’m unshakeable
 • I’m pretty good
 • I’m okay with it in the game, as long as I don’t have to be the one instigating it.
 • I’m not comfortable with many things, please be gentle.

How would you rate your experience in larping?

 • I’m an old pro and am pretty confident in my skills
 • I’ve been doing this for a while and think I’m pretty capable
 • I haven’t had a lot of experience
 • I’m a total newbie.

Who would you like to portray?

Is there anyone you particularly would feel very uncomfortable roleplaying with? (Confidential)

Is there anything else you’d like us to know when assigning your character choices?

Looks pretty cool so far.

should be good!

Can’t wait!

Is this event an NZLARPS project or affilliate (just curious)? From the description it sounds like an affilliate or independent?

It’s cool, Steve, I’ve got it in hand. I’m assisting Daniel with managing his relationship with the society. It will be associated with the society in some way, most likely as a project to assist with covering the booking fee.

I tend to be pretty good at staying on top of keeping in touch with the larps that are running in Auckland, y’know

Quiz is in your inbox

I have full faith in your abilities, El Presidente… I was merely curious because it didn’t indicate one way or another. I know you tend to be on top of everything going on - one wonder sometimes how you manage it all.

But I’m going off topic. Wish the family would give me time to actually play in these games some time…

A larp’s relationship with nzLARPS doesn’t tend to matter so much for the general public. But yes, this game was accepted as a project of nzLARPS at the last committee meeting. Whoo!

At this point in time, Juliet and Daniel are proud to announce that the LARP has reached full capacity. Announcements about stuff will be made shortly. All in all, there will be 22 players (four new characters will be written). Any queries or such can be directed at DanseMacabreLARPS@gmail.com or this page. Anyone who has sent in a questionnaire will have a character assigned to them. If you have not sent in a questionnaire but have spoken directly to Juliet or myself, you are quite probably in as well. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you are unsure. If you wish to get a preliminary briefing on your character (you will get character sheets in advance, just not now), Daniel is an internet junkie and will gladly blather on and on and on about this marvelous LARP.

Daniel is apparently eminently bribeable as a GM.

Also: the venue is $200 if you don’t spend $1000 on the bar, so $9 of what everyone pays will have to go to venue coverage unfortunately.

Great game! I had a blast.

My thoughts, if anyone is interested.

But yeah, Loved my character, did quite well with my goals and had an all 'round awesome time.

It turns out I make a lousy Satanist but am not bad on the lesbian seduction front

That’s rather… interesting.

Wkd game  I hope you guys are running another one soon :stuck_out_tongue:

I only regret getting everyone killed…

Great Larp. I had an excellent time:D

I only regret getting everyone killed…
NEARLY Everyone. Thomas Crane and April Killroy, soon to be Crane, made an exit shortly before the bomb went off.

and technically I didnt die either. I just returned to being a californian beach. A Californian beach with a slight cocoain addiction

Well, there are worse places to be than California if you’re trying to score Coke. Even if you are a beach.

Thanks so much to everyone who came to this game! Daniel and I had a lot of fun, neither of us had GMed a LARP before (though he’s an old hand at tabletop GMing). If you have any ideas for improving the game (we’ll probably run it at Battlecry), let us know either here or at dansemacabrelarps@gmail.com. Other than getting out character sheets sooner and having Ulysses James played by someone who wasn’t the GM.
