NZLARPS online membership database

The NZLARPS committee has decided to move to an online database for storing membership details.

While I’m not on the committee this year, I’m still keen to help out where possible. So I’ve coded a membership database for the NZLARPS website, that users can update their own details in.

Even if you’re not a member of the society it will be useful to register in the database, because the system will be expanded to allow for adding and editing of events, and online registration for events, in the not too distant future.

To register in the database please go here and click “register”:

nzlarps.org/database.php

You can also reach the database from the “Database” link in the top menu.

Committee members will be able to see all users details, which is useful for administration and things like mailing out Immersion. Right now general users cannot see each other’s details, but when the event registration function is added an event organiser will be able to see relevant contact details of users who have registered for the event. I also envision people who are registered for a larp being able to enter their character details so that they are accessible online by the larp’s organisers (like the Mordavia character database). Your password is encrypted in the database, it cannot be retrieved by anyone.

If all the current NZLARPS members could add themselves to the database that’d be great, and anyone else who’d like to register now is welcome as well. If you are a current member then after registering you can click the relevant button at the bottom of your profile to have your membership status recognised.

“Could not register user. Username may already exist.”

I get this error on the two usernames I tried to use; ian & ianneilson

Those usernames should be fine - I just tried registering weith them now, then deleted them and it worked fine. It’s probably something else in your registration details that is the problem. Maybe a funny character in a field, or the formatting of your birthdate?

Try taking everything out except the required fields. You can edit your profile to put the details back one at a time once it’s created to see which one caused the issue. If it doesn’t work with just the required fields, it must be unhappy with data you’ve put into one of the required fields.

It’s likely that we’ll get a few errors that I’ll fix up. We’ve just given it basic testing before putting it live.

A couple of people have registered, so it is working. You must have done something to offend it Ian.

I think it was probably birthdate… You might want to change that error message to be a little less missleading.

I had the same problem. Got rid of all the non-required details and it worked, so I filled them out after I had registered.

I’d be interested to know exactly what data in which field is causing the issue.

Thank you Ryan, for the time and effort you have put in on the membership database. We really appreciate this contribution to the community

No worries. Given that it’s been almost two years since suggesting it, I’m kinda embaressed how long it’s taken to start it.

I’m pretty sure its the birthdate field. When i did it yesterday it refused to accept my birthdate but as soon as i left that particular field blank it went through fine.

AJ has validated the members who have registered in the database, you might all want to check that your updated details are correct.

And those who haven’t registered yet, please do at nzlarps.org/database.php - this database will be NZLARPS’ central store of member information as well as becoming a useful resource for all NZ larpers, so everyone should get in there.

I’ve fixed the birthdate issue, you should be able to enter your birthdate when you register now.
