Was surfing the highways and byways of the internet and thought this was post worthy - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Zealan … ng_Society
Awesome! Wolfgang and Chimera get a mention!
The grammar in that article is awful.
Lol. Better enjoy it while it lasts then…
Notability. In the form of references to books, news articles in reputable media, scholarly papers, etc. What’s called reliable sources on Wikipedia. And the coverage needs to be substantial, not passing.
Thanks for the explanation didn’t see the link till after I posted, hence the chance.
So add some. Got a ref to that 20/20 report? Any news media article at all that mentions it?
(Off to fire up NewsText…)
Update: Added a few refs. Of course, someone might still think it is insufficiently notable because pig-ignorant Americans haven’t heard of it. Meh.
Perhaps what I should have said is that I don’t think the articles I know of demonstrate the notability of the society. The first two refs you’ve added aren’t reliable sources (uni newspapers aren’t), and none of them are specifically about the society or contain substantial content about it. The 20/20 article is mainly about larp and secondarily about Chimera, with NZLARPS just getting a mention. The fact that NZLARPS runs Chimera and Chimera gets coverage doesn’t matter - it’s possible for a product of an organisation to be notable without the organisation being notable.
I’ve been waiting for an article specifically about the society before creating a Wikipedia article on it, but I’m not holding my breath. Because a lot of people haven’t heard of larp, news coverage is more likely to be about the phenomena in general than about specific organisations.
don’t be a party pooper ryan
Just FYI, this is at least the second attempt to add NZLARPS to Wikipedia. The last one I know of (couple of years back) was killed for lack of Notability, too.
From “when is a LARP not a LARP?”
A reference to add to the wiki?

Not an NZLarps Project, I thought.
Note that anyone can edit Wikipedia, so please do.
Valid points. Though one points to inaction, and the other to action. Perhaps I will wait until they have been contacted by NZLARPs.
Because a) everyone else links to Wikipedia; and b) Google’s slogan is “don’t be evil”, and manipulating search results for profit is pretty much the definition of evil.
(Now I want to play a larp villain, just so I can say “yes! I murdered her! And ate those babies! And sold their orphanage! And the worst bit is, I manipulated the search results for profit! Mwaahahahha!”)
