NZLARPS database

I’ve made a number of changes to the database on the NZLARPS website:

[ul][li]You can now book for events, if you are logged in and the manager of the group has set the event to be bookable. (Group managers can see everyone who is booked, and can add people who have booked by other means like email). You can also specify which character you’ll be playing at the event. [/li]
[li]You can now store character sheets for an event, if the manager of the group has set the group to allow character management. You can also choose whether the public will see your character with some basic info, or whether just the group manager will see it with all the private info. The group manager can also add NPC characters to the list, and add characters on behalf of players (so long as the players are registered in the database).[/li]
[li]You can now log into the database from anywhere in the site, and the site now remembers you so you don’t have to log in again next time (unless you choose to log out). [/li]
[li]Anyone visiting the site can see a listing of groups and events from the database, including a page with details like price and directions that can be set by the group’s manager. [/li]
[li]Anyone on the national or regional committees can now add and edit groups and events, so if you’re starting a group and want to be marked as the manager of it then any committee member can sort that out for you. Once you’re marked as the manager of the group, you can add and edit events for your group. [/li][/ul]

There are still some things for me to do, including a “Forgot my password” option, allowing multiple managers for a single group, and having the calendar on the front page link to event detail pages. But it’s usable right now.

If you’ve forgotten your login or password, send me a PM and I’ll reset your password and let you know how to log in.

If you’re running a larp, feel free to turn on the character management for your group and/or the bookings for your next event, and give it a whirl. Drop me a line if you have any problems with it, via PM or email to it@nzlarps.org

Also, let me know if you have access to something you don’t think you should.

Hi Ryan, i went to check out all your hard work. And I may be missing it, but I couldn’t find a link to get to the NZlarps website from Diatribe. I didn’t look in the how to join forum thread, although I suspect it is there, because I know I am a member, but just want to go there. I’m guessing there needs to be a sticky-ed post about getting to it. Or a button to click here to go to it. (May explain why there is no-one going to it from Diatribe…)

Well in the short term, click this:

Longer term, yes we should have a clear link to the NZLARPS website, preferably displaying the NZLARPS logo, somewhere in the Diatribe layout so that it’s always available and the relationship with the society is clear. I’ll bring this up with the committees, thanks.

Hi,

I just noticed that under “Larp guide” St Wolfgang’s is still there. I know it isn’t a “database” thing but I just noticed it when looking around.

Thanks - the guide needs some cleaning up, clearing out games that aren’t running anymore and adding new ones.

I’ve just removed St Wolfgangs, Nightmare Circle, and Ravenholme from the guide, as these don’t appear to be active. It would be easy to put them back if they shouldn’t have been removed.

We should add some more - Teonn, Chrono Continuum, Dreams in the Witch House, and Jade Empire all seem quite active in Auckland, and photos from them would look good in the guide. There are also a number of WoD games running around the country, and it would be good to at least have listings (photos never seem to be forthcoming, I guess because they’re often not costumed). There are also pregen larps running quite regularly in Wellington - I’m not sure whether they can be grouped together easily, but the photos would look great if we could.

I’ll have a look at putting together some text and photo montages with the various game runners, see what they think.

There is now a “forgot password” function on the website. It will create a new random password for you and email it to you, along with your username. When you log in you can change the password if you want.

So for all the folks who’ve said they can’t log in anymore, please give this a try.

Here’s the link again:

They are actually frequently costumed, and costumed well. They are often not photographed, which is something different. I’ll organise getting photos of the Auckland games for the guide (as Auckland marketing officer)

Here’s some from the latest run of B&B you can use. Norman has photos from “Silver Kiss”. Not sure who has them for Chakta Peace accords.

I’m happy for you to use these ones. Assuming none of the subjects object?

I have photos from the first run of The Ch’akta Peace Accord, although they’re not that amazing (thanks to the camera having an unavoidable long exposure time).

What would be the best way to group the various larps running in Wellington, given that they don’t seem like campaigns?

The idea of the page is to show new larpers specific larp events they might be interested in playing. That’s a bit trickier with one-off larps because by the time the event has photos it’s too late to attend. Can these one-off Wellington larps be grouped into something called “One-off larps” with a selection of photos from several of them and a description of them as an ongoing series of one-off pregens? Or is there a better way?

I think that is the best way. Some of them do end up being re-run when there is interest, but there are no guarantees on that.
