Yes, as of this morning, we are now officially an incorporated society of New Zealand!
What does this mean?
Several things, which probably do not affect you directly but have an important bearing on the operation of the society.
- We now call ourselves ‘The New Zealand Live Action Role Playing Society Incorporated (NZLARPS Inc.)’
- We can now create bank accounts etc in the society’s name - so no more paying into my personal bank account! Soon, I will post details of this account for all future payments (hopefully, the account number will not change). This protects us (to a point) in the future from any embezzlement by unprincipled members. We will also be able to cash cheques made payable to ‘NZLARPS’.
- We can apply for funding from the government and the Lion foundation to run community projects, or to improve the gear library. This can help new projects get off the ground.
- We have more muscle when negotiation with other organisations and businesses for members’ discounts and other agreements.
- We have a measure of protection in that no other people can call themselves ‘NZLARPS’ or anything too similar.
- The society’s officers (eg, me) are no longer personally financially liable for the societies debts or for any errors.
Many thanks to all who signed the application form at the last meeting!
