I suggest that our editor now select something like half a dozen of their preferred and put it up for a vote? Or, just pick their favourite…
I kinda like this name, but I have trouble with the implications.

The fourth wall is almost always used in reference to moments when characters address the audience, as in breaking the fourth wall when a character makes an aside to the audience that isn’t part of the fiction. Like what Alfie does. This really doesn’t have much relevance to larp, where this is an extremely uncommon technique.

I’ve never heard “the fourth wall” used in any other way. By itself it does mean a kind of suspension of disbelief, which is relevant to larp, but that’s a quite subtle implication. I think it’s just too stretched, and the main implication is a wrong one.
I first heard the term “The Fourth Wall” recently in that same context, only it was used in the sentence “breaking the fourth wall”.

But I completely see where you’re coming from. My original idea for a name was “Through the Fourth Wall”, a suggestion of larp breaking down the barrier between fiction and audience, or an amalgation of fiction and audience, and a slight in-reference to “Through the Looking-Glass” with its implications of discovery and oddity. Unfortunately, that’s a bit long for a magazine name.

But its a great title for the article you’re going to write for a newspaper or magazine.

I was thinking of “Through the Looking Glass” as well, or possibly, “Down the Rabbit hole”…

We could call the mag “White Rabbit” because it leads you into wonderland. Bit silly though, especially the sideways reference to White Dwarf magazine.

lol, pornz.

I’m not in favour of ‘The Fourth Wall’ because breaking the fourth wall is used to indicate the fictional world becoming aware of the real world, which is sort of the reverse of what we try to do.

And I’ve heard the phrase previously… See here for some silly fan-fiction of mine based on a manga I’m fond of.

I find “fourth wall” a bit hard to say.

Anna mentioned “Wonderland” a few pages back and it sounds like the cleanest way to get the Alice reference going.

Did anyone watch the finalists of this year’s 48Hours short film competition ?

How about:

Larphaus

I, for one, welcome our German overlords !

LARPHAUS

Klaus uses expressive dance to re-create his character’s internal conflict when faced with pettite hiccups threatening his right to socialise with objects in space.

LARPHAUS

What about Paradigm: A set of assumptions, concepts, values, and practices that constitutes a way of viewing reality for the community that shares them, especially in an intellectual discipline.

I have really strong associations between “paradigm” and the sciences (inlcuding both hard and human sciences). Although it does literally mean a common understanding of something, I’ve never heard it used about a common understanding of a fiction.

But the general idea is good. Something along similar lines could work well, in the vein of:

Shared Delusions

I love that. It captures what we do and it doesn’t take itself too seriously, is almost tongue in cheek.

Even just ‘Delusions’ might be enough.

I really liked “Larpzine”.

Alternate Realities

Anna and I have decided on a name.

It is… going to be on the cover when it is printed. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thank you for everyone’s contributions to this thread, check your mailboxes after the 11/12/06 to find out what the name is.

(What? A little suspense never killed anyone  )
