New Online Retailer for New Zealand Gamers

Hey there everyone,

I’m not 100% sure if this is the right forum to be posting in about this - kind of new to diatribe - so apologies if I got to the wrong section.

I’d like to let everyone know about the new site that I’ve opened up for gamers, Evin Shir Games.

Evin Shir Games specialises in roleplaying, board and card games - however I am looking into getting in some new LARP materials as well. The core focus of ESG is to provide both a store and community site that isn’t favourable to a single region, and supports all gamers.

The business is new, but growing quickly. It has some of the best prices in New Zealand for gaming needs - so check it out.

Thanks Conan, this is the right place for your post.

Great!

Everyone please note that I am currently getting a new layout arranged to make the site’s features more accessible. Hope it helps.

Also, if there are any products people are keen to see added to ESG’s catalogue, email me on:

Hiya Conan!
Long time no see! Its a long time since Orbit.
Good luck with the business.

Just had a look, theres a good selection there and online orders, too. This is what NZ needs… now, if I can get SheWhoMustBeObeyed to up my allowance I’ll be getting something…

I didn’t look, but do you carry -

  1. Mississippi Queen (and the Black Rose expansion)
  2. Once Upon A Time
  3. FLUXX
  4. Munchkin, plus its numerous expansion packs

since I know someone who wants (1) and I want (2) and (4)…

While I think about it, from a LARPing angle, it might be an idea to carry the ‘Host a Murder Party’ packs. While they are a bit simplistic and restrictive for experienced LARPers, they are a good introduction to LARP for complete beginners who would not consider LARP (and many people play them without even realising they are playing LARP).

I can’t agree. I played the 1920’s one and thought it was rubbish. The basic idea was okay, but the sheer amount of information was totally overwhelming. I slept through the second half and the “solution” made no sense to me whatever.

And it wasn’t like larp at all. Just a bunch of people reading out of little booklets and asking leading questions.

Hoi hoi!

I can definitely do Once Upon a Time, FLUXX and Munchkin. I have a list at home of several hundred other games I still have to add to the list. (I kid you not!)

I think I can do Mississippi Queen, but I’ll have to look into it.

I’ll add them on today so that when you are ready to order, the products are there.

One to check out is Hollywood Lives - which is a LARP style game. It’s under Others in shopping categories.

I played one once and found it rubbish, too - but then, I’ve previous experience in role-playing. At least the theory is for people to act out their roles - and the game is very guided and controlled, which helps novices and irritates the hell out of anyone experienced.

Still, they appeal to one section of the population that wouldn’t normally LARP and despite their shortcomings I’d still categorise murder-mystery-party games as a branch of LARP, albeit a stunted one. Different games may be closer to scripted acting, though.

I can get the How to Hosts in, but they are so regularly available from other sources I’m not sure if there is much of a demand for an operation like mine to stock them. I will consider it though.

Hey Conan, did you have any issues with the forum registration here?

We’ve recently changed registration to require the visual confirmation code to be entered in reverse order to stop spambots registering, and I’m wondering whether it was still clear and intuitive for a new user.

It was a little confusing at first - but I just read the instructions again and realised what I was doing wrong, and fixed it.

Thanks. Sounds like we might need to highlight the altered instructions more.

I notice you don’t have the board game Hero Quest, which was basically my entire introduction to the world of roleplaying. I think if I hadn’t had this, I wouldn’t have played Mordavia. Which would have made my life terribly boring.

On the Evin Shir website, I suggest you have a section where you list the most popular games – maybe winners of that annual award – or the best sellers. This would allow people to see a list of things that they might like without being drowned in your huge stock list (which is good to have, but a bit overwhelming). Also, it’s good to have this sort of recommendation when looking for something new.
