Nail Polish as paint

I’ve just added some touches of decoration to my latex sword with some bronze nail polish I had around the place. (to make it identifiable as mine not anyone else’s, rather than making it prettier per se) And I got to wondering if there was any particular reason (e.g. acetone dissolving latex) why I should not use it. I mean it keeps well, comes with its own brush, with no clean up afterwards, and there is a reasonable assortment of colours available at $2 shops these days.
And I thought that since it’s designed to stick to slippery surfaces, you could use it on other stuff too like plastic and corflute. (And even remove it afterward?) Charles wanted some sploshes of bright red along his blade, but I think I managed to talk him out of it.
Have I just re-invented the wheel?

acetone does indeed disolve latex, as do many other organic solvants. I would reccomend only using it on leather (eg the grip) as you will perish the coating very quickly.

If you want to paint onto a sword the best way is to mix some paint crystals into a latex layer and then use that (for a full effect) patterns are achieved by painting between layers so most detail on high quality swords are about 2 to 3 layers of clear latex below the surface.

there is also the fact that nail polish tends to be rigid, while latex and foam then to be flexible, so there is a possibility that it may well crack or even shatter if it takes an impact.
