More larpers... more larps?

I’ve been thinking about how in the last years we keep trying to recruit more and more people into larping (and succeeding  ), and therefore community grows, and more and more new faces appear on photos after each event (yay!).

So while the number of larpers is constantly growing, how is it going to grow on the side of actual larps?

 More geographic cover? Seems to work well with Wellington and other cities?
 Bigger size larps? How does it work for people with Teonn, which seems to be the biggest ever larp campaign in NZ (yay?)
 More variety and numbers of the actual larps? Seems to also go well, especially with new people also running things?
 Multiple runs of the highly favoured games? Seen it happening, and worked nicely, didn’t it?

Are the game organisers keen and prepared to keep doing their awesome job on the points stated above? And to expand it further and beyond?
Running larps is not an easy kind of fun (yep, I know that even though I never ran a single larp), so while we are doing so good with getting more people, let’s talk about how we gonna keep making everyone happy with ever (yay!) growing numbers 8)

P.S. Wondering if I actually get any comments on this…
P.P.S. If anyone is keen on running “St Wolfgang 2” - I will be your enthusiastic player. Can move it to 19th century and make it all steampunk, seems a popular trend with larps at the moment

Fundamentally, I think that if we want more games, we need to grow the number of people willing and able to organise them. This process is going very well in Wellington, where the growth through VUW Games Club has included a number of people on the writing and organising side (who are bringing their games to Chimera and running the 33AR campaign to boot).

But there’s also the limit of time. There’s only 4 weekends a month, 52 a year. AIUI, Auckland already fills almost all of those weekends with one event or another (many of them WoD). Growing the number of games may mean people having to choose what to play in.

Hell, if someone wanted to rerun St Wolfgang’s I in Wellington, I’d happily play in it.

I think after another few larp weekends I would be keen to help out with running games. So if your question was around other people waiting in the wings to step up and help run LARP’s the answer is a yes

When NZLARPS was originally formed, we had a Project Officer role on the committee. This role was responsible for assisting game organisers (a game is a project) to develop their project, providing advice on logistics, finance etc. It was kind of redundant because, at the time, most people running games knew what to do and didn’t need assistance from the Project Officer.

Now that NZLARPS has expanded quite considerably, it may be useful to resurrect this role to assist aspiring game organisers.

This would require a change to the constitution, however.

Can’t you just get a general committee member to do it?
