More Jousting this Sunday - 2nd Feb

Hi guys,
I was just talking with Sir Graham and it turns out he and Sir Robert and Sir Jeremy (The NZ Team from the Taupo Joust) are putting on a display this Sunday 2nd Feb in KatiKati - which is just out of Tauranga.

I’m going down with them to help do setup, and photography for the event. I’m also going to take down a bunch of nzLARPS flyers and hand them out in a bid to spread the word to Taurangians about us.

If anybody else is interested in coming down to see some more jousting and/or help out being ground crew then let me know.

edit
The location is:
A & P Showgrounds
Uretara Domain
SH2 - North Katikati (the first part you drive in from Auckland)

How far away is KatiKati from Auckland, approx?

Katikati is about 170km from Auckland CBD.
So approx 1.5hrs drive.

(And since I’m out in the wops in Papakura its only 130km for me)

1.5 hours at an average speed of 113 kph.

AA suggests an average speed of 70kph, so you shouldn’t take more than 2.5 hours, assuming that Auckland traffic behaves.

Go to Waihi and hang a right. If you fall into the mine then you went to far.

Remember Alista, they’re Orklanders, they drive at a different pace than us… I mean I do just under 110km on the motorway, as soon as I’m in Orkland I get passed like I am standing still. :smiling_imp:
Haha sorry gross generalisation there, no offence meant to those of you Orklanders who drive like us nanas from further south :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah but
you drive like a Nana

I know a guy in katikati called Roel - Is in SCA I wonder if it is at his mums place?

EDIT: Okay saw the location i feel like a lemon

I have no idea what you are talking about, I don’t even own a car, or have a drivers license, and I live in Auckland, and have all my life. not all of us are westy petrol heads.

R

No its another Roel - actually he lives in Hamiltron Now - His mums place im guessing is still in Katikati

Phoenetically i guess you are

Raoel - Ra ool

his is

Roel - Ru el

As I said, gross generalisation! And Jamie, you can’t talk, you don’t drive at all!

Oh hush Hamiltronians.
Compared to my Dad (From Hamiltron) and my girlfriend (Also from Hamiltron) I’m the nana driver.

Besides if I had said 2hrs drive how many people would have thought “bugger that!” It all psychologocolocal see menyah. :stuck_out_tongue:

yeah but If i did my last name would be Andretti - Vroom Vroom. My wife is a bit of a hoon though

You do realise though that there is a big 60km zone through the gorge they need to go through from Auk’s so 1 hr 45 is a better Guesstimate

Aren’t you supposed to be at work Jared?

Nah, you can by-pass that by going down 27 then cutting across.

Then its 2 hours + to katikati (lolz) you would be doubling round yourself via Tauranga back to katikati or going over and armound back roads. May as well go through the gorge and Waihi. More open roads and faster

To hell with the time.

Its a nice drive and there is tilting to had.

Fortunately for you guys I am off to watch people throw things and the sky.

Speaking as someone who drove for many years in the UK, and has also driven in the US, Thailand, Taiwan, Australia, and Eire as well as NZ, I can say that New Zealanders are, generally speaking, rather bad drivers. They are hugely impatient, tailgating speed-freaks and it is no surprise that NZ has thrice the road fatality rate of the UK (per car), although half that of the USA and about a sixth that of Taiwan.

On the REAL subject of this thread, it’s a shame I can’t make it for the joust.

Incidentally, my AA guide says 3 hours 20min driving from Auckland to Tauranga, if you drive safely and legally. as it is 205km.

You also forget that the UK has 60 million people and roads that are considerably narrower so when you drive on the roads (Motorways aside) you cant travel very fast anyway. I dont actually drive but i get annoyed with drivers even while in the passenger seat that travel below the limit say 60 in an 80 zone 40 in a 60 zone these are the people who cause accidents. My wife has only ever been in an accident twice, twice she was not in fault twice cause by non originating Kiwis - who cannot adapt to our open roads and drive like they are in the middle of 6pm traffic ion Shanghai. Timid and well below the limit heads down bums up praying to their gods.

Need I say more.

However: New zealanders are very uncourteous drivers and should take a leaf out of Australians books. They let people into the queue when the roads are busy. New zealanders really only think about themselves on the road. Too many cars with opne person in them going to work. Not enough car pooling.

A generalisation

I find Hamilton drivers rude and Auckland drivers arrogant. Either way they will try and kill you if you use a pedestrian crossing.

Oh yes, how was the joust???

I’d been inclined to disagree that Australian drivers are courteous or good. Personally I think that everyones driving sucks no matter where you’re from. Its easier to hate everyone equally, that way you don’t get disapointed.

The joust was very good and a lot of fun. I ended up horse wrangling and acting as squire becuase we were a little short of ground crew. Therefore I didn’t really get to hand out many nzLARPS flyers. I also suffered a bit of sunstroke that left me sick as a dog lastnight, but other than that it was all good.

There may be a jousting display in Hamilton sometime soonish which I’ll keep you informed of when/if it gets confirmed.
