5a Mordavia weekend game. Ryan gave a good report.
Gear. The gear handling was excellent, except that the makeup kits were absent. If they’d been at my house, I’d have gone back and searched for them. But didn’t feel comfortable asking Mike to go all the way home to look for them when they might just be hidden under something in the War Room, even though it was an important item. It was a 95% job.

Camp. The camp booking and cleanup were good, I thought. I organized the food myself because Alan and Anna don’t get on. That was okay, although Alan being absent and stressed and not getting on with the cook did make it more muddled than I’d like. It was a 75% kinda job.

Finances. (Abbreviated) A mess. The person in charge of this was absent for most of the weekend, and the delegated person did as well as can be expected of a short notice job. A lot of PMimg needed to sort out. A final financial statement is not yet ready due to the sorting out. A profit or loss yet to be determined.

GMing. The GM stuff was much easier to do with so much other work taken out of my hands. It would be even better if they’d all been as successful as the Gear.

5b BattleCry – Probably not the right place to ply for new members. But was a nice first try. Armageddon would probably be a better choice. Research needed. What about NZ School of preforming arts? Advertise there? –Adam
Kudos to Rhiannon for setting up the game and running it. Was enjoyed by all. Just a pity that more battlecry people didn’t try it.

Thanks for getting this up, AJ.

Sorry guys, I forgot about it totally until someone txt’d me to do it.

I hope I didn’t make to much of a hash of things.

I’d be interested in hearing people’s thoughts about the vacuum that will be left when Mordavia completes, and the place of NZLARPS regarding the formation of new larps.

My personal take is that NZLARPS should be encouraging people to run larps, but not telling them what they should be. If there’s a period with lots of one-off games but no campaigns starting up then so be it. Or if lots of campaigns spring up and start competing for players, such is life. I don’t think it’s the society’s place to try to manage what larps that are running in NZ, just to support the ones that do run and want to be supported.

Obviously there are already heaps of new larps being run while Mordavia is still on, and I foresee that continuing - especially with the help of the society. Don’t think we’re in danger of a real vacuum.

For the record, I’m happy to go home to get stuff if it’s needed at a weekend game. It’s my responsibility, and there are plenty of times where action is traditionally low (e.g. breakfast time). On many occasions, I have gone home for this or that item. I should have checked that the makeup kit was at the game. Next time I will make a point of confirming that the gear is accounted for after the GMs have had time to go through it all.

For daygames, I am trying to devolve gear responsibility to the organisers, and would rather see the organisers do the emergency gear grab mission.

For sure. The only reason that you bring the gear to Mordavia weekend games yourself is that you ARE one of the organisers of those weekend games. In that instance you’re wearing your other hat as the Mordavia Gear Guy, as opposed to your NZLARPS Equipment Officer hat.

There’s no way larps running under NZLARPS should expect you to take the gear to them in general, unless you have a specific arrangement with them.

By the way, I like how concisely all the gear is packed, but it’s going to be pretty hard to get stuff out for one-day games where only some of the stuff is needed. It’ll involve taknig out and re-packing everything to get a few boxes. Would be really nice to have some arrangement with a corridor where you can walk between isles of boxes, see all the labels on the sides, and just cherry-pick what you need for day games.
