Finances doing well, has discovered where some of the extra $400 came from – remains of petty cash float. Someone has put money into the Mordavia account by mistake. Still waiting for final accounts and money for the last Mordavia game. Have finally been given a Financial Forecast by Lucy for the next Pirates game – want $60 up front and expect a profit of $80. Motion to approve costs – passed.
Expect to get between $500 and $700 more from Mordavia. We can now afford a trailer to transport gear. -
Larps review
Stargate Reetou – prepared beforehand by co-GM’s. Went well – a few new concepts – players getting 3 or 4 levels of XP. At higher levels things take 6 months real time to achieve. One of the players died right before the end (“on the operating table”). Profit was $25.
Quest Waikato – took ½ hour to make a character up. Fast, dynamic, fun game, along the lines of Mordavia but without the pressure of trying to save the world. Has been going for 16 years. Once a month, day games only. nzLARPS could offer costumes, charge small amounts to hireage. We might be able to adapt the Quest rules system to different settings.
Robin Hood (Joust) –lots of problems, but fun. It was really hot, people were disappearing to watch other events. It was approached as a larp rather than as a display, which may have been a mistake. Apparently a 10yo from Kaitaia is really keen to join, and has read all the stuff on the forum – his mother is willing to bring him and a whole lot of other kids down for a children’s game. -
Upcoming larps
Og: Still needs a GM. Steve can provide all the stuff including game plan, handouts, props etc. Will be advertised in banner on Diatribe?
Soap opera – prescripted backgrounds for characters. Bit like the Couples game.
Stargate – no new scripts.
No Mans Land – at the moment there is a problem with a main NPC. Will probably be changing the date.
Unity – preliminary costumes, ready to do interviews. Still trying to find a good location – Kennedy Park, Whangaparaoa Tunnels and Stoney Batter were suggested.
Battlecry – using Lucy’s Pirate Game rules. No documentation.
Cat’s Easter Camp game – wants to be a Project, will do documents.
Nibelungen – props apparently excellent. All spaces full. -
Membership
The Secretary is a little busy writing a thesis, so hasn’t finished making the next lot of membership cards. The emails have been getting through, perhaps the reply function is not working as it should because apparently people haven’t got replies. Several new people have joined recently. Membership cards are now laminated and waiting to be sent. Thesis deadline = 28 Feb. -
Bringing in other larps
Adam has talked to the Auckland OWBN (One World By Night) – apparently we came across as ‘not liking vampire larps’ because we hadn’t contacted them before. Hopefully we have mostly erased that impression and are looking to offer them affiliation, a forum on Diatribe and maybe a webpage.
Quest Waikato has also been contacted, some members went down to play. We have a copy of their rules system. -
Magazine
Craig has sent Mike the PDF of the magazine – Mike wasn’t there today. He will be getting a lot of them printed B&W for high-quality flyers. We are also going to try and get some more business cards done at some point. -
Costume sale in Wellington
It sounds really good, but we don’t know what they have, or what we need. Perhaps a couple of individuals will go down and have a looksee but it doesn’t look like we’ll go and buy some more gear this time. -
Website update
Craig wants to make the nzLARPS site more expandable, and make it so that GMs could edit their own pages, and put the membership database linked to profiles so that people would be automatically emailed when they need to update membership, and things like that.
Tigger thinks we need more photos on the nzLARPS site for graphic impact. One possibility is putting in a photo album. Another is having a photo or two for each larp, but having 18 or so photos on a page means a lot of scrolling down and things. Perhaps thumbnails would work. A lot of discussion and decided to put ideas up on the forum. -
Battlecry advertising
We will give out business cards out of the lot that has already been printed. -
Other Business – none noted.
Actions for the next month:
- Check out business card pouches to keep cards crease and dog-ear free.
- Anna – get business cards for BattleCry
- Craig – long term – expandable nzLARPS site and web integrated membership database
- Rhiannon – membership cards outstanding
- Create myspace and/or livejournal communities for nzLARPS to help with advertising.
- Affiliate to Quest Waikato
