Mentoring Needed

Hello

If you can organize ANYTHING We need you!

If you can create new games from scratch We need you!

If you know great places to hold LARPs We need you!

If you can give sage advice, without making the advicee feel stupid We need you!

If you are feeling a little down that you have to run just about every aspect of your game because no one is out there that could do it, TEACH some one! They can then run it, freeing you up!

Do you feel a little down because you have to run everything, and no one is running some thing you like to play in? Teach some one. They can then run stuff, maybe you’ll like one of their games, and play for a change.

To put it bluntly, we need mentors.

People who are willing to help teach people how to …? What ever.

Some people are natural GM’s, treasurers, logistics, costumers. Some are not. Some would like to be. These are the ones who need YOUR help.

If you want to mentor, PM me what you’re willing to teach, and I’ll add you to the new list. When some one wants mentoring in something, I’ll try and put the two of you togeather.

If you want to mentored, PM me what you want to learn, and I’ll consult the list. And I’ll try and put you together with some one who can teach you.

This is a chance to expand our knowledge and skill base. To make better and more GM’s, etc.

Step up to the challange. Make a change for the better.

i’d like to tip my hat to the creators of this idea. Fabulous idea

I’m happy to mentor a person (or a group with a clear leader and point of contact) on the logistical organising of larger larp events. So long as they are happy to put their learning straight into practice by being the Operations organiser of the next Mordavia weekend event.

See this thread for details:

I’ve run two Mordavia daygames and I’m happy to mentor someone who wants to run a daygame (Mordavia or otherwise).

I’ll help you plan the milestones, assess the risks, and gauge the results. But I’m far too busy to actually do the work - that’s your prerogative

Fundamentally, it’s about acquiring the skills for Project Management (PM). PM skills will always be in demand - and developing them in your spare time is a good way to gain a competitive edge with respect to employment.

Seriously, I’ve seen Project Managers charged out at over $2000 per day. OK, that is an extreme example, but you get the picture ($800/day is probably closer to the market at present in a contracting environment).

It’s not rocket science, and you don’t have to have any experience - just the desire to see something come about, and the commitment to put in the work.

Once you’re committed, the rest of it falls into place.

I do a bit of armouring and if there is anyone who is taking an interest in this area (i.e. they’ve already started armouring and producing stuff) then I can probably show them a thing or two.

Armouring is harder than you’d expect and unless you’re a “tool user” you’ll probably struggle to produce anything you’d actually want to wear.

I have a reasonably well equiped workshop and can demonstrate a couple of techniques that should get the budding armourer started.
