Making another stone golem

Would anyone be interested in building a copy of the stone golem costume, under my direction? You’d need to have some artistic flair. You’d be paid.

On a related topic, anyone know what it would cost to get a stone golem costume to the UK? Presumably packed down into a box.

for the cost it all depends on the weight and size

Assuming the pay isn’t chicken feed, I’m interested.

One word - prohibitive.

Well, you won’t be able to use post becasue their max parcel size in 1.05m. So you’d be looking at a courier company and even though the Golem may not weigh too much he’s rather bulky and they cunningly use volumetric weight in addition to actual weight.

More likely you would use a shipping company. In my experience, they work on volume instead of weight, so you could measure up the current golem and calculate the (fully packed) volume (I’d guestimate at 1.5 cubic metres) then see what the suface shipping cost is.

Free time dependent, I’d be in on helping with the making of it.
It would probably be cheaper to take the golem as ‘additional luggage’ if you (or someone else) is flying to the UK - although I’m not sure if this is possible on planes (it is on trains, buses and boats). If you go through the US you get to take two pieces, though.

I’ll be flying to the UK at Easter 2009. A long way off, though.

My mother will be flying there in April this year, maybe too soon. You’d need to pay the extra luggage fee though which is airline dependent and I dont know which airline she’s using (also it would be a bit unwieldy for a 68yo granny to lug about) or if she’d agree. My sister MAY be coning out to visit around October and she’d probably be able to do it.

NZ Post won’t ship something bigger than 20Kg or 40cm x 40cm x 40cm (length+girth<=2m). This costs $276.86 for 10-25day delivery time.

Don’t forget there will be import duty shipping into the UK (since I assume there is a $ value on this thing).

Seven Seas will ship a tea chest (40cm x 50cm x60cm) to london in 84 days for $220 all inclusive, or door to door in 21 days for $595 (!). However the price goes up slower - five of this size is $600. I don’t know how big a golem would pack, and you’d not want to squeeze it up too much. Maybe 2m x 0.5m x 0.5m? That would be 4 tea chests, and $505.

I’ve taken Derek up on building it. Thanks for the advice on shipping folks.

I’ve looked into Seven Seas, they only deal with moving personal stuff. I have to deal with freight companies.

Waitakere City are having yet another inorganic at present, which may be useful in obtaining foam mattresses.
